Official Tremec 3650 Issues Thread

I know the dealer is full of BS .. Noone has been honest to me over there since buying the car...

I'm taking it over to the largest dealer in RI next week..

I know exactly how you feel. I've been to two dealers about a front end clunk. Both dealers said they replaced the front sway bar end-links and bushings. I drove it home and it still did it. So, I took it back to the second dealer and this time they have to "order" different front sway bar end links and bushings.

So, I called BS on them. It turns out they haven't even changed anything in the front end. They didn't even have the parts in stock they supposedly put on my car! The parts are suposed to come in this week, so we'll see what happens.

I'm, starting to get really po'd at ford. It's always a fight to get something fixed and when I get my car back I have to go over everything they do and make sure it's actually done properly.

OK, so my 03 GT is already back at the Ford House to get the transmission worked on yet again. Problem now is, I have installed a Pro 5.0 shifter, and a Prochamber H pipe. I am afraid they are going to throw a hissy fit over those two items and refuse to either fix my car, or work on it until the old parts are back in place. Has anyone ran into any pushback over this? Supposedly these new parts will resolve my 1 to 2 grind but I've heard this before.

I wouldn't worry about the clunk unless you have transmission grinding. I would worry about grinding but (as I have posted several times before), I would look at easy fixes first, like changing your motor mounts or making sure your shifting technique is correct.

The driveline clunk is probably due to the high amount of play that Ford builds into these cars. When you shift, accelerate, or brake, the drivetrain shifts slightly, aned the unibody acts like a drum in amplifying the noise generated by the shift. BFD... I don't find it all that annoying, at least not in any of the 4 Mustangs I have owned.

CuddaWuddaShuda,
Answer me this. If it was a motor mount or transmission mounts why is it temperature dependant? Why does it go away when the trans warms up? Why is there a list of transmission parts from Ford, but no mounts being listed. You are wrong. Also, tell me this? Is the transmission bolted to the motor? Is the shifter bolted to the trans? Any movement of the motor/trans would not matter since the shifter/trans are bolted together.

I'd put the stock shifter back on and call it good, they won't say anything about the H-pipe.

I bought an '03 GT with under 2000 miles used. The problem I have consistently is: clunk while engaging first gear. 2nd gear grind (not really a grind - but can feel the gears engaging) Difficult to engage when cold. 3rd gear grind - not as bad as 2nd gear. Have to roll the car 9 out of 10 times to get in reverse.

This isn't my first manual, and the thing that drives me nuts the most is reverse. Even if I select a gear before reverse, I usually have to slip the clutch in first to move the car before I can engage reverse.

I'm taking it in for 5000 mile service and reporting the tranny issues, plus I hear a ton of clutch chatter when the clutch is engaged (like the pressure plate is warped).

Cool, the dealership didn't say squat about the Pro 5.0 and Pro Chamber Off Road H. Yay!!! New parts are going in today and I should have the car back tomorrow or Thurs =) Third time for the tranny to be in the shop.

I didn't read this entire thread but i did read alot of it, is the tranny an issue on the 04's? I don't think i heard anyone comlpaining with an 04?

I have the 1st - 2nd clunk and someone posted up with an 04 mach also on the same page as mine and said they had it along with other problems. :(

I had my car in for this issue and got the runaround, we flushed the tranny and put in new fluid, that's all we can do. I sent an email to Ford customer care and got a call from them and the dealership, the dealer said for me to bring it back and they'll take care of it per Ford's suggestion!! :D

We'll see!!!!!!!!!!! :bang: :chair: :flame:

GOOD NEWS

My car is going in tomorrow to have these parts installed,
3r3z*7124*BA SYN ASY TRANS
3r3z*7102*AA GR ASY-TRANS INTERM
3r3z*7107*AA RG-TRA/AX SYN BLK
3r3z*7230*AB FK ASY/TRANS 1st & 2nd GR SH
1r3z*7109*aa KIT-TRANS SNP RG
1r3z*7H150*AA WHEEL - TRNS DR VN SPRKT SPD S
XT*2*QDX FLUID-ATUO TRANS 1QT MERCON

I called my Ford Corporate warranty contact and he checked the status of the TSB and to make sure there wouldn't be any new parts. He says that those were the parts and the TSB should be out within a month. All the parts are avaliable individually, but Ford is just trying to put them together/box them up into a service kit.

I'll keep everyone posted on the results. 2-3 days they said for the job.

Finally....resolution for me....

My car was in the shop for 5 days, my parts are similar but different than Twisted's post. Here are the parts that were replaced on mine and the decription on my invoice:

13R3Z7124BA SYN ASY TRANS
13R3Z7102AA GR ASY-TRANS INTERM
13R3Z7107AA RG-TRA/AX SYN BLOCK
11R3Z7109AA KIT-TRAN SNP RING
12R3Z7100AA GR-TRANS M/SHT 1ST SPD GTR

26661 ABNORMALLY WORN SYNCHS, TEST DRIVE VEHICLE, UNABLE TO VERIFY CONCERN. PER FORD AND TREMEC VENDOR SOP RMOVE TRANS AND DISASSY. INSTALL NEW FIRST AND SECOND GEAR AND SYNCHS WITH TMEC PTR. UPON REMOVAL OF 1ST AND 2ND NOTICED ABNORMALLY WORN TEETH AND SYNCROS WITH WORN ASSY. PASSED SM AFTER REINSTALL. NOTE: VEHICLE HAS HIGH PERFORMANCE SHIFTER AND EXHAUST W/NO CATS W/MILS.

It has only taken nearly 1.5 years but the tranny shifts like butter..right fromt he get go..no hesitation or grind. If you are in the Dallas area and wanna give her a spin lemme know.

I have confirmed with my Service Manager that got word from the regional engineer from Chicago that there IS a TSB out to fix the first to second grind and the roll over noise (not sure what this is). They are still putting the parts together, most likely a kit or something. It will be available in about 3 weeks. Good luck to everyone with this problem.
