How many here run AFR 165's on 306's?

they are oerfect but why not 185cc heads? they will yeild you more top end but you will prob loose some down low. im geting my worked/built pair from ed curtis.

"VERY" limited to cams with the 185's on a stock bottom end. I dont think you can run anything more than a stock cam without flycutting the pistons, they may not fit at all  P/V check is a must.

FWIW, the reason I got the AFR 165's was because they flowed better on the exhaust that the TW's, and they had a thicker deck.. better for a daily driver..
I've had mine on the car for over 2 years... drive it every day.. no probs :nice:

the afr's seem to be a very nice head but don't down play TFS twisted wedge heads.. They are 61cc combustion chambers with I believe 170cc intake ports and with the Twisted Wedge design it rotates air over the center of the cylinder bores. And they don't loose low end torque. They don't require special pistons for the 2.02 valve as long as you stay within reason on your cam selection. they can hold .540 lift and I forget the duration but your cam shouldn't be an issue with stock pistons as long as your not using an 86 shortblock. My full weight 95 n/a 5spd with the box stock tfs heads, stock performer intake, 73mm maf, stock throttle body, crower 15510 cam 212 duration .531 lift, and the usuall exhaust, gears, and bolt ons went 13.1 at 109.5 mph with just regular 275/40/17 BFG street radial tires.. and it had ran a 109.7 mph and a 110.xx mph as well. I would have like to run it with slicks or DR's. and the computer was untouch with no tune. So TFS heads are pretty hard to beat for the price of them IMO And with the cam I used it pulled like a friking mule. No low end loss there. And later on if you were to stage III port the tfs heads.. well they are just awesome. And the valve train issues are a thing of the past as long as you use the crane gold, tfs, or FMS blue roller rockers.. others will ride the outside of the valve tip and bind them ruining the guides.. use the recommended rockers and your fine. the real issue use to be with the pedestal mount heads that are no longer made.

Thanks man. I was kind of hoping someone who was running the TW's would speak up. My decision is far from made, but I am definitley leaning towards the AFR's. Guess we'll see how I feel once the rest of my tax return arrives :p

Well if you really want to compare the twisted wedge heads to an afr product you should compare them to the 185's.

I thought the TW's were a pretty fair comparison with the 165's? I think that 2.02 intake valve is kind of deceptive; the heads do flow better than the 165's, but port volume is not that much different?

Though I run AFR 185's on my 347, I would have to recomend the AFR 165's, I think everyone has seen the comparisons and can come to the conclusion that these are the best "out of the box" heads availible. When you check out those smooth CNC ported runners instead of the chunky castings of the other heads, youll know why they flow so well.

Am curious how many people on here run these heads on primarily street oriented engines that see some strip action. I'm dead set on keeping my cam (.499"/.510" 221*/225* @ .50", 112* LSA) and using a performer intake I just picked up along with a 65 mm TB and 70mm MAF; still not sure if I'll have to jump up to 24 lb. injectors or not. Would these heads be a good fit for my combo in putting me around 300 rwhp while maintaing decent bottom end power (as much as the cam will allow)?
Have you ever ran this motor at the track,or been to the dyno??

Nope. It's currently completely stock but for TFS cam and the afpr. Was pretty evident to me at the time I bought the car that the owner prior to the dork I bought it from was running some decent heads & intake on there before putting the top end of the engine back to stock before selling the car.

Will probably get a few passes on the current set up this spring before putting on the intake and heads though so I have a benchmark to see what new heads, performer intake, and supporting mods give me.

Yeah, definitly get an Idea what you have.and have fun doing it :nice: When do you plan on the heads purchase?

Am supposed to be getting a bonus from the boss within the month, so I'll probably have all the parts (heads, intake, etc.) laying around and ready for install by mid-May. Stuff will actually go on once me and a couple of my more mechanically gifted friends have coinciding open work schedules on a weekend.
