Still working on my problem, went ahead and bought a mechanical temp gauge so I could see exactly what is going on....

Car has stock radiator, 180 thermostat...no cooling system mods...60/40 water/coolant

At idle

Temp =208 , then fan will come on and cool down to 202 range

Temp runs cooler with heat on, stays the same with AC on.

Does all of this sound acceptable???

Stock EEC values command low speed fan on at 208 and off at 204. High speed fan on at 228 and off at 220!. Good old emissions tune. It will run slightly cooler with the heater on because your removing heat from the coolant via the heater core to the interior. Be glad yours runs the same temp and doesn't get hotter with the AC on.

That 228 explains some for me too....When I am stop and go around town I will look down and be in the low 200's and then jump from like 215 and instantly say 228 and then cool down to 219... once I get going it get down to the upper 190's tho. I hope it stays ok till I can get a new rad.

There is nothing wrong with your car, you just need to get an EEC tuner or a chip and have the temp the fan comes on adjusted. I have an EEC tuner and my fan comes on at 190, on the factory gauge my car never gets past the "N" in normal.
