I was looking at my steering wheel and it seem that it is tilted towards the driver side door on a angle there is also a bigger gap where the steering column meets the dash, more gap on the right side by 1/2 inch,
is this normal or should I get it checked, also the steering wheel shakes at some speeds
what could it be

The tilt is on all the stangs........ even mine has it....... it's kind of not in a 90 Degree angle to the dash but more like 80 and 100........ but the shaking is from needing a balacing and alightment.......

1979 platform = imperfect steering wheel, driver seat, shifter, and foot pedal alignment. It's about time a NEW (not just restyled) Mustang came out. I love my 2001 GT, but I agree with most of the magazine articles I have read lately: I wish the ergonomics were better. I'm anxious to drive the '05 to see the improvements that have been made.

FWIW, mine also tilts to the driver's door. I also find, FWIW, the tilt mechanism far to granular. The turn signal stalk is too low on the column and with the tilt in one position, my knee hits the stalk as I let the clutch out prepping for a left-turn. If I tilt up to the next notch to fix that little problem, the wheel feels like it's approaching the angle one sees in a bus.

Maddening ergonomics at times. Still fun to drive though :D

Here is what I remember reading a while back. The steering wheel is tilted on all 96+ stangs due to the increased width of the 4.6 modular motor. It was done for motor clearance issues. Kinda crappy, most people dont notice it. On mine, if I lean back a bit in the seat, hold the wheel and lock my elbows I can feel how crooked the wheel is.

One more reason I cant wait for Sep/Oct.
