sounds behind the instrument cluster

Sometimes, it seems like there are a bunch of little chirping things going at it behind the instrument panel. I don't know what this is, but it seems like going over bumpy roads while accelerating tends to do this. They're high pitched little creaks/squeeks. ANyone have any idea? Is this what they refer to when they talk about octane causing pings? Which brings me to another note... anyone happen to know if my 99 manual stang would be ok w/ 91 octane? what do you all recommend? 87,89,or 91?

THanks

That's not pinging, that's just Ford quality for you. :) I promise you just about everyone here has a dashboard and cabin that rattles like **** pretty much 24/7. (And anyone that says 'mine doesn't rattle like that' just doesn't know what they're listening for - go sit in a Honda or Toyota or VW and see what a quality interior SHOULD sound like)

As to the octane - stick with 87. There's no benefit to going higher.

i have the same prob in mine...

I have a 2k v6 and I get a rattling sound behind the instrument panel...it gets really annoying. I start putting pressure against the front panel but the sound is still there... drives me nuts!

and on the gas Q, the manual says that I should put 87, yesterday I was talking to my mechanic and he said that it was probably the gas. He said to try filling it up twice with high grade and see if it goes away.

I experience a similar noise, but it goes away when i press in the clutch. Does yours do the same?

hey man that means that the throwout bearing in your clutch is going bad. i would say that in another 5-7000 miles you are going to have to replace your clutch... trust me i speak from expierence. and i recomend a cernterforce Stage 1 clutch as a replacement. i like it alot.

Oh crap, I hear a squeal until I push the clutch in, so I guess I'm in the same boat...but I've heard that sound for at least 10k miles, so are there any other warning signs to imminent clutch problems?
