Ok, I saw that a few of u guys were wondering what intercooled ram air is so i am fixin' to tell you! Intercooled ram air is basically just like a 5.0 Ram Air kit but with some mods! As you can see in this link, RAM AIR ,the Ram air box on a 5.0 is put under the car well on the 2.3L Intercooled ram air it is almost just like that except it has a bigger box and infront of the airbox is a heater core hooked up to a waker pump and tank running freezing cold water through it to cool the air going in the air box. On the street I just run reg. water in it, but when I race i put about 1/4 water and fill the rest of the tank up with ICE! I will try to get pics on here soon!

Seems like a lot of effort for a couple degrees of cooler air.

Ash

Its just not a couple of degrees!!! I first had just the Ram Air and i gained 10 rwhp and then i got the heater core and it was making a tenth to a tenth and a half quicker on the track and i was making 15 more rwhp than the stock Ram Air!!!! We measured the intake tems and it cool's it up to 15 degrees when a bag of ice is in there!!!! I would say its a GREAT UPGRADE and it is very cheap to make!!!!

so your saying 25rwhp difference total for the intercooled ram air intake. dude you must be smoking some serious ****, I think someone has been reading hp claimes on air filter boxes again. hell even 15rwhp is ludicrous. ESPECIALLY on a n/a 2.3l engine.

actually I was thinking the other day of how an intercooled setup might be rigged up. You don't realize just how much power is being lost to the restrictive high temperature intake on these things.

of course I'm not gonna piss away effort on a 4 cyl though.

Not as much as one may think.

I would honestly say even if you had a way to freeze the intake you still may only see gains of a few horses at the wheels, even on a large engine.
Not really worth it IMHO.
Obviously throw some form of compressed air into the intake and you will see more gains since the air is being superheated from compression.

They way i got it set up is i got a box about the size of the stock air box and it has an 3" inlet and outlet the oulet goes to the TB and the inlet goes to a K & N cone filter down in the fender well! and i was running it at the track and i picked up 2 tents and 25 hp at the wheels on the dyno!

speed pressure increase
30 mph .02 psi
60mph .06 psi
100mph .2 psi

hmmm, at 100mph, you get .2 psi, which is approximatly a 1% increase in pressure... looks like the ram air gave you ~1 hp AT 100MPH!

by the way, all of these calculations are slightly high. they assume that the air comes to a complete stop, which it does not.

No offense, but all of you forumla freaks, some times things break the odds, a heater core is really more efficent than you thing and no bull**** i am making 25 at the wheels, my buddies stock s-10 4 cyclinder made 15 hp and 1.5 tenths at the track! People i am not making this up!

None taken :)

First law of living lol there is always an exception to the rule but its not the rule :D

Did you by chance take note of every little detail to make sure that something didn't change like the temp out side? Maybe his tires was 10psi less and was able to hook up more or maybe he drove better the last round. Mock the forumla freaks all you want but go down and see what others are using. I bet the competetion is listening to the math wizards and above all esle if it works for you run with it :nice:
