How can you tell what year my 289 was built?

Under the car, behind the starter on the block is a casting number. It will read something like xxxx-xxxx-x or close to that. The first two digits are all you need for year anyways. The first digit will be a letter
c=60s
d=70s
e=80s

Second digit will be a number and specify the exact year.

Ex. C8=
built in 1968

You can go further in depth with the rest of the numbers but I don't remember em off hand.

Next to the casting #'s behind the starter are another set of numbers/letters. It will be a single digit followed by a letter and then another one or two digits. The first digit is the year of the decade in which the block was cast. The letter is the month code, these start with A for January and go on up the alphabet ( except for "I") for each month. The last one or two numbers are the day of the month in which the block ( or any other part) was cast. The heads also have date codes inside the valve cover, next to the valve cover rail. The intake also has the date code.

Gideup, would you happen to have a blue fb or a red one with white stripes? I may have seen you around town somewhere.

nope, not me, if you mean in the 65 FB. Its not in drivable condition because the car has been disassembled by the previous owner. I do run around town in a laser red 97 GT convertable with the gidiup florida tag though.

Ahh, ok. My stang is down too, awaiting a shortened driveshaft. So far the only 65/66 fb's I've seen were the two I mentioned. Hope you get it running soon, we need more classics around here.
