Is anyone running this setup? I currently have Magnaflows but am thinking about switching to Magnapacks.

I have heard that 'packs work best with a catted pipe, but the Dr. Gas doesn't sound like other X pipes.

What would make you think that the 'Packs would work better with a catted-X? I have never heard that before.

I honestly don't think regular Magnaflow mufflers vs. Magnapack mufflers when used with a catted or O/R X would make any kind of negligible difference between power, or any thing else for that matter, other than pure sound...

What he is talking about with the magnaflows and the packs with a catted pipe is true. It is a matter of backpressure. Even though people think that they should open up there exhaust completely, it is wrong. On a stock or nearly stock car not making that much power, you will actually run worse if you open up completely. So in theory of backpressure, any straight thru muff will perform better with a hi flow cat combo, where as a chambered muff will perform better with a off road pipe. People will disagree with this that has the straight thru muffs and the off road pipe because it is loud. People think that when there car gets louder that it is faster and it is just not true. just my .02

I wouldn't do it. It'd be too g.d. loud. Mine's f'ing loud and I still have cats. I thought about getting SLP's race pipes along with the catted X, but I decided to wait until I heard it with cats. Lets just say I'm not putting the racing pipes on now.

My question was simply for sound. I am not worried about the gains/losses with them.

I have heard many people say that MagnaPACKs are too loud with an O/R X and that is why most use a catted X. But the Dr. Gas X pipe is much quieter than most O/R X that I have heard. Even with my Magnaflows it is pretty quiet except at WOT. That is why I was wondering if anyone had MagnaPACKs with a Dr. Gas. I don't know why it is different, it just is.

I am sure that it will be louder than stock and probably have a drone. But if it is minor with the Dr. Gas then it is fine with me. I will keep the MagnaFLOWs for my long trips during the summers and run the MagnaPACKs around town.

I say just do it. LOUD IS FUN. Besides, after a few weeks you'll get used to it and it won't seem loud at all. My exhaust was LOUD!!!!!! But believe it or not, i was about to get some Dynomax Bullets welded in to get it a bit louder. :D

I have Packs and the Magnaflow E-pipe. It IS loud, but you get used to it and it definately scares the damn ricers. As fars as "power loss" you may lose a little at the lower ends but a nice boost at faster speeds.
I didn't lose anything with the MagnaFLOWs so I doubt I would lose anything with the PACKS. I went ahead and ordered them so by this time next week I should be able to answer my own question.

Thanks for the help guys.

exactly HOW much louder are packs over magnaflows on a o/r x pipe?
I'll let you know sometime next week :D

Actually I have a sound clip of my car with Magnaflows. I will try and make a sound clip in the same spot with the same camera to see the difference.
