PEWTERPONY: Question about install at T&J

I know I'm not in the modular crowd, but after doing some research on Atlanta-area performance shops and suspension installs, I came across a good post you did a couple months ago. My question is: If you did use T&J, how was your experience there and do you remember what the cost was for the installation.

Basically, you were referred to T&J in one thread and it appeared that you were going to use them to install the Bullitt Kit, C/C plates, and subs. I am looking to have similar items installed (Bullitt Kit w/sways, MM C/C plates, and Energy Suspension's complete bushing kit). I also hope they can do the alignment, because I've heard that "chain shops" don't know crap about aftermarket C/C plates and some won't touch a car with them.

I'm going to call T&J later this week, but thought I'd get some feedback from you since your mods are so similar. I did read that you had issues with the Steeda C/C plates, but I haven't heard anything negative about MM plates, particularly with hood clearance.

Thanks in advance. BTW, I've only heard good reports about T&J, so I expect your experience would be the same.

Hey whats up. No I never took my car to T/J. I took it to Wayne Gunter in Lawrenceville and he did all the work. He has a mustang shop right in the middle of Lawrenceville and hes a vendor for Steeda. He did a good quality job but the CC plates are clunking, and I suposed to take it to him sometime soon and have them taken off or others put on. DO NOT GET STEEDA PLATES. Wayne told me I didn't need them for sunch a modest drop (1.5) And if it turns out that I do infact need them, I will get some better quality ones. I don't like the way they look , so Im hoping I don't need them

If you want his no. reply back and I'll leave it in a PM for ya......Peace!

Oyea, Kaufmann Tire in Suwannee did my alignment. Pretty knowlegable about alignments there.

I'm only about 5 minutes away from Lawrenceville, so I'll give Gunter a call tomorrow. I've always used Andy's Muffler on Hwy 124 near 78, because most of those guys have lots of experience with Andy's race cars. I'm going to try them, but I'm expecting them to be pricey for this install. That's why I'm seeking a second option.

I've always had good tire wear, so it's pretty important to me to make sure that's not a problem. Plus, MM C/C plates are supposed to be about the best, so I might as well go ahead with them. However, I could get everything else put on, wait a few days for the springs to settle, and then get an alignment (if it can't be aligned correctly, then I could go ahead and order MM plates). Hmmmmm...... I may go that route.

How long did you wait to get the alignment?

And yes, send me his number. Thanks a lot.

I know that T&J has a good reputation on here because their owner advertises a lot on the threads about all the great work he does. I am sure they do great work as well, so don't take this as a knock against them.

MV Performance is the shop that has done all of the work on my car over the past two years. They have always treated me well, and really know what they are doing. I have spent in excess of $30k with them, and they treat me the same now as they did the first time I walked in the shop.

They do every type of performance work you can imagine, and specialize in Mustangs and Fords. I am sure they can do anything you need done, and if something isn't right they will make it right.

They are located in Statham, which isn't too far from Snellville. I would definitely give them a call just to see what they say about your car. Ask for Shane or Tim Matherly when you call. Tim is one of the owners and the engine builder and dyno tuner. He really knows his stuff. Shane is the shop manager and handles all of the scheduling and parts ordering. Tell them "Shane with the Bullitt" told you to call them. Their number is 770-725-7862.

Dude I took my car to Andys for exhaust work and they d icked me. I got there at 8 and they had two exhaust guys there. One got mad and left leaving only one with three jobs in front of him, mine being #2. I was still there at 2:00 and no one said a damn thing to me. Finally I told guy to hell with it, I'm outa here. They also wanted to do a krap system on my car. They wanted to put magnaflows on my car with the stock pipes.

I took it to Jerry Lord in buford and left it with him and picked it up that night. Had a complete catback 2.5mandrel bent magnaflow system with x pipe put on. Couldn't be happier

Bah....on andys

I left ya Gunters number in pm....

I'd be willing to bet most of T & J's customers like myself do thier own install on the stuff you mentioned, but I'm sure they can help you out too.

excellent feed back for T & J. :nice:

I recommend T&J hands down. Best service and customer service by far. I had all of my work done by them. I will have all of my future work done by them. They are doing amazing things in that shop. I couldn't recommend them any higher.

Well since I have only this one car, I gota take my car to where its convienent. T/J is 40+ miles out of my way. Im sure they do quality work, but Im also sure no one is gona come give me ride that far and back :)

However.....heh.....when I win that vortec kit at myrtle beach I might have T/J put in on :D......Ok....i can dream

I'll give everyone mentioned above a call and make a decision based on location and price. It's good to hear that there are a few shops around that provide good service.

I travel a lot for work, so I'm saving my "mileage reimbursement" for mods. Right now, I can afford the suspension stuff, but later on there will be plenty more. Just trying to do things in a logical order. Since I drive it a lot and on longer trips, I am desperate to rid my stang of the well-worn ride.

Thanks for all the great replies and responses. If I had the tools and time to do it myself (or with some help), I'd gladly do it on my own. I figure it's worth a few bucks to get it done in a day.

Thanks again. Feel free to comment further, if you've got more info. I'll add to this thread once I get some quotes, if anyone's curious what this install costs. I'm curious myself, as I have no idea.

Oh yeah, about Andy's Muffler:

The times I've gone there, I believe that Andy was there every time, so maybe he keeps on top of things. I do know that I've never waited on stuff, cause I would drop it off before work and pick it up afterwards. The most significant thing I've had done is probably the removal of my stock H pipe alond with the installation of my Bassani X.

I do have some reservations with Andy's because their staff is different each time I go there and they don't really specialize in stangs. I'll probably stick with one of the shops above from now on since I'm looking to do more serious stuff.

Thanks.

You'd be surprised how far they'll go for a customer. ;)

Actually I dont advertise on here about our great work..Our customers that bring us cars from all over the country, including canada do that for us..

There are alot of great shops in the atlanta area...Im sure the orginal poster wont have any problem finding what he is looking for..

IMHO,I would use the M/M caster /camber plates. We install alot of them and I have had great luck with the quality.I cant speak for Steeda's because we haven't installed them..

I have been around here since before you opened T&J, and I have read many, many threads where you personally talked about all the great things you were doing with Mustangs. I saw you build your business up directly by advertising on Stangnet, even though you would try and skirt the rules by telling people to PM you about prices and stuff. If it weren't for Stangnet, you wouldn't have half the customers you have now.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with what you have done, but don't deny it. Many other shops have done the same thing, like Dennis Reinhart and others. I know that now there are tons of people on here that talk about how wonderful your shop is, and I think that is great. Just don't deny that it was you that started it all. I mean, how did the kit become known as the "cobra killer" kit if you didn't start it all here on Stangnet? Capitalism is great, and any way that you can get ahead you should.

Also, if you look above at the post where you responded to the guy saying you would have given him a ride to your shop and back, that is advertising.

LOL..

I did start it all by selling a kit that became popular on here.I have never been warned about advertising. It is perfectly legal to come on here and respond to a post with our name in it.

The guys here named the kit that..Not me....

And your right,I wouldn't have half the customers we have if it wasn't for stangnet..This is a great site..We also get the other half from people unhappy with other shops.

Fwiw,G.I. joes car and then Kidds 663rwhp car put us on the map.My 729rwhp didnt hurt to much tho..
And when/if I told people to p.m me it is because I respect Mike's rules about NOT posting prices...

I didnt advertise above,I just answered his question. And we would give him a ride.No different then we went and picked up a car that lost 3 starter bolts and drug the starter down the track that another shop installed. I can explain this story if ya like...But,I might be advertising for another shop if I did.Last time I checked we haven't lost any customers to other local shops, but it seems we pick up cars daily with people extremely upset about how thier car was treated.

Look,we strive to treat every customer car like thier car is our car.If thats spamming, bad or whatever it has to be labled,Im guilty.

cobra killer (Tim):

I'm guessing you are Tim Barth? Anyway, I noticed on your website that there was an "email" method of contacting you guys, so I've done that. Please let me know if that is ok or if I should call by phone. I figured that email would be better, because I could clearly state what parts I wanted to install.

If you'd like specific info on my email message, I can PM you with that.

Thanks.

I believe I as well as several other satisfied customers coined the phrase "Cobra Killer" Kit to help differentiate it from the Steeda Kit and we were the ones that helped Tim Barth build his business up here on Stangnet by recommending him. Why not recommend someone when they give you a great deal and they have great customer service?

The one thing that Tim of T&J has realized that maybe Tim of MV hasn't is the importance of the internet. You should take a ride over to Tim of T&J's shop one day and see how many cars from different states are in there. He not only services the Atlanta area but he has customers drive down from Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Kentucky, Florida, North and South Carolina, Alabama, and Ohio(probably missing a few more). He also has customers in Mexico and Canada.

There's nothing wrong with recommending shops. I think that is a major reason for having these discussion forums. I recommend MV all the time on here, and think everyone else should also recommend businesses that do great work. I didn't post in this thread to start any arguments. I just wanted to let the guy now about another shop in the Atlanta area that also does great work.

MV Performance doesn't need to advertise on the internet. They have people bring them cars from all over the country as well. They get a ton of publicity from all the magazines that do stories about their cars. I have seen many people drive from several states away. They have so many cars there every time I go down that it takes them an hour or more every morning and every night to move them in and out of the shop, where they are locked up every night for safe keeping.
