4v Swap/Tuning???

  • Sponsors (?)

Ok, easy to do with the tweecer, get urself the RT and then use a 99+ tune as the starting point, you can copy and paste tables and functions from different tunes. Open your file and then just copy the crucial tables and functions from the 99+ tune.

why on earth would you even try to run a 4V off a 96GT computer?????

Because the gt wiring harness is already in the car. Putting a 99 4v harness and computer in would be a pita. Remember, dave had a ford dealer do this swap and they weren't exactly that smart about it. If you wanna no more about the issues with the dealer look into gobabyvroomm's history of started threads you will find it.

We just fixed the fuel line about 10 minutes ago and its holding up so no more leak.

Hopefully we can get the tach and water temp hooked up and running then well be off to learning how to use the tweecer. Dave told me today he's looking into buying one soon.

EDIT: One more thing. There is no vacume line hooked up to the fuel pressure regulator. I know on the 5.0's they have one. Do they absolutely need one. It hold pressure good at any rpm but I noticed it when we were fixing the leaky fuel line and couldn't find a vacume line going to the regulator.

BTW, what would be better for a tuning device. A tweecer or a PMS from anderson ford motorsports. Im thinking about the PMS for my 5.0 but would the tweecer be better for dave because he has to download a 99 4v tune anyways?

I assume this is tuning software you can install on a laptop and use to tune your car while driving? How much does the stuff run. And how is it connected to your ECU?

The tweecer is a chip like product that connects to a computer via usb and has up to 4 programs in 2 bank mode and 2 programs in 4 bank mode that you can switch while driving. The RT version of it alows you to datalog and monitor up to 16 inputs live on the EEC. Go to www.tweecer.com I have alot of fun using it, you can even download their software and play around with it for free. The hardware supports anything and more than a chip does and their software keeps getting better. The best thing about it is that you can monitor what the computer is seeing while your driving.

I think the tweecer would be fine for daves car. When you get it you just dl the cal. from his computer and copy tables and setting from a 99+ tune.

Nice...so are you able to basically write your own tune and then write it to a chip? How many things can you change with the software. I like the idea you can log drive testing in progress and then look at the results. I assume yuo wouldn't have to have access to a dyno until you get the tune finalized and see what the end result is? or does it require access to a dyno.

I think $500 range is very reasonable for this if indeed you can control a/f and timing which i assume you can. Also, i wanted to know if you you could set up the chip to pull timing in case of high temps and when detonation starts to occur?

Yes, the tweecer plugs into the j3 port like a chip, but connected to it I leave my usb cable tucked away somewhere and my switch in the center console. I can select a program/switch while running and even turn the tweecer off and automatically load the factory tune while the engine is running. You can do something that is pretty cool a valet tune, position 1 is default if you unplug the switch by the tweecer or the switch. You also don't have to worry about finding your calibration to dl it either, you can read the EEC's memory with the tweecer and start with the calibration in YOUR eec.

You can change all the crucial tables, fuel, timing, functions. Pretty much everything a dynotuner can do, limited by the software. Software keeps getting better and more added over time.

No, you wouldnt have to have access to a dyno at all if you install a wb o2 in the car, if you dont then I would recommend going to a good dyno to verify that your AF is where you want it to be. If you calibrate everything correctly, you can directly type the AF you want at given loads/rpm.

Yes, that happens to be a function that uses the ect sensor. you can set it up to start pulling timing at the temperatures you want, or add timing when ect reads a lower setting taking advantage of a little cooler block when detonation is less likely to occur. To pull timing when detonation starts occuring automatically, you would have to use the knock sensor table and hook one up if your car doesnt already have one.

Josh.

I think you should get the tweecer first, because the pms will only run the car durring certain times from what I remember, but you need a base tune that will smoothly run the car.

Dammnnn I'm gettin the tweecer it was between roll cage or tweecer but after this thread i'm on it.

When my check engine turns on,<well it stays on a lot and shuts off sometimes> can the tweecer tell me the problem? Does Tweecer always keeps up dating their software?

How much difference is there from a tweecer tune and a shop tune. I think the shops has the a edge only because of the dyno. But then again you can get that o2 senser that plugs in your exhausts and gives you killer reads. So i don't know which one is better?

Yes, the programmer Mike Glover does update the software.
Yeah, I think you definately need a tune more than a roll cage.
Your tune made by you should end up better than a shop tune, because your diagnosing the car and tweaking settings on the street, not a dyno. Further more, if you use knock sensors or something to make the knock audible, with a WB o2 in the car you should be able to pretty much optimize everything needed.

actually the 99 + Cobra motors will run fine if not better on the 96-98 GT Computers, so will the 03 Motor.
I have Dyno tuned many and have killer numbers from them

Why would it run better of my computer. The 99 computer fires coil on plug to fire all 8 cyl. Where my 96 computer can only fire 4 cyl. on coil on plug. I had to go with MSD coil packs to get the 4v running. Hell i'm not saying that your wrong or right i just don't understand because i don't know much about the whole computer/tuning thing.

The car only moves at 4000-6800 rpm. I hear that is where all the power is at 4000rpm but damn my car feels so slow till i get above 4000rpm. I really hope its not going to do that after the tune.

What gears do you have? If you have 3.27's or better you should feel like you have power throughout the rpm band. Thats basically the same engine that i drove in the mach 1 i tried out. I have to say it has as much torque in the 1000-2000 range as the SOHC but is alot stronger on the top end.

BTW, where did you get your engine and how much was it?

I got my engine from Ford new and they tried charging me $15,388.96 but I got the city after them and i only paid $8000. That is still to much money but owell.

O yea i have a 373 and i need to put 24 injectors on the car i only have 19s on now. I think that is why i'm having a hard time below 4000rpm. Not enough fuel to the motor.
