My personal review of the Magnaflow cat-back!

After weeks of asking around, listening to every cat-back sound clip known to man, and taking the advice from people that seemed to know what they were talking about, the purchase was made. $500 of cold cash netted my installer the parts, installation, and a $10 tip to them for doing such an awesome job. :nice:

It took an hour for them to finish, they had a little problem getting the tips onto the tail pipes. Other than that, it went quick and easy. Once it was all straight, we found the driver side mounting rod for the tip was against the heat deflector of the gas vapor filter. Since that would have made some vibration, they used a saw and removed half of the rod, it wasn't needed anyhow since the kit gives you plenty of length for adjustments. Then they tack welded, just a small spot, to make sure it stayed put.

Pacing back and forth, eagerly wanting my car back on the ground, I couldn't wait to hear it. It looks so awesome connected to my Bassani X-Pipe.

The moment came and they lowered the car, turn of the key, and I was instantly satisfied with idle sound, a deep powerful sound, yet not loud at all. I was in a hurry to pay the guys and get out of there! :spot:

I started the car, backed out and eased onto the road. Oh yea, big time improvement over the flowmaster 2 chambers. Although the flowmasters sounded good with stock h-pipe w/cats, it was just too raspy with my new x-pipe wo/cats. A mile later I was hitting the on rap to the four lane highway.... the wait was over... to the floor the gas peddle went.... WOW!!!

A very powerful growl that will make it known that this snake bites! The straight through design has stainless steel meshing that absorbs lots of the sound at idle and low rpm cruises... easily talk to your lady going down the highway... but punch it... and the gases fly straight through the muffler.

Thanks Magnaflow for such awesome craftsmanship and quality product!

My cobra now has 23k miles on it, bought at the end of 2002, brand new. The miles come from my job, I have to travel via car a lot. Short 3 and 6 hr trips. The flowmasters had a loud drone at highway speeds, the magnaflows do not! They sound awesome and I couldn't have made a better choice. I am sure borla/bassani are good choices too - I just don't think I could be happier :)

It feels like a new car again and I find myself just driving again for no reason. Easy on the gas and its kinda stealthy... but get on it and you will turn heads two or three blocks away :)

Got em now for over a month.. "Got the price deal posted here in early March !! Since then they have gone back up in price.." All I can say is that they bring a smile to my face everyday I drive her now.. and they're not Obnoxious when I need to keep it down in volume..

:nice: MAGNAFLOW :nice:

Here's my dyno comparison with them from last weekend too..

Anyone with stock H on thier 99/01...how do the Magnaflows sound? I am unable to do an X at this point but hopefully will later this summer. I am leaning towards the Magnaflow catted X pipe (living in california) and am strongly leaning towards the magnaflow catback.

when I have to run out to get something and there are cars in the way on the drive way I will jockey cars around just to drive it and hear it.

what you need to do is let somone else drive it. The wife left the other day in it and I was in the back yard and heard a awesome car coming down the road...holy crap it was mine soundin that good...lol

The only negative comments that I have heard are some people are having problems with the tips moving, since the entire kit is bolt on. My suggestion to those and anyone else, have someone tack weld it in place... these are stainless steel and will outlast the car... plus tack welds are easily removed if needed.

I do think the 3.5" tips are a little on the big side. 3" would be enough I think...

1990stanglx - I have a 99 with the magnaflow cat back. Stock H pipe for now. Great sound. Almost no highway drone. Very nice at WOT. Will be adding an MRT catted H soon just to make it a touch meaner.
Thanks!
do you think that an H is better than an X with the magnaflow system?

I have it on my '01, I removed the two front cats from my stock h-pipe, It drones a little on the highway inside, but not enough to bother me, sounds great and passed emissions.

h/x pipes... its just a matter of opinion.... I don't think there is much difference with the magnaflows... although I can tell you with flowmasters 2chmbr systems... mid-pipes with cats sounded better...without cats...the flowmasters were just to raspy like glass packs for me... way to obnoxious :)
