Why did my 1/4 ET go up after mods?

John, long time no see been atleast 2 years since I saw you at Mason.

IMO..forget the stock ported heads, go to a good aftermarket alum head that has better hardware and more potential for down the road, why do you think blk9450 is getting rid of them???

AFR 165's, 30# inj, 80mm Pro-M, custom cam..go 11's on motor all day long.

Hey Rick! What's up man? I think when I met you at Mason Dixon was one of the last times I went to the track before my long break from racing. How's your stang runnin these days? I remember you were in the 11's then.

As far as portin the stock heads goes, blk9450 is right, it is a definately a money issue. I've always been planning of eventually swapping in my dream motor, a KC 331 stroker with AFR 165 or 185's, a mean ass cam, the EB RPM intake I already have (with maybe some porting or honing), big maf and injectors, and my nos plate jetted at a big ass 250 shot :D

But, until then, I want to see if I can get this motor close to 13 flat without nos, If I am going to change the heads on this current setup, for now, I don't want to spend much on them at all. When I have the kinda money to spend on AFR's, I will just be saving that to put toward the big future motor.

One thing I also have to consider: How much of a pain in the ass is it to remove and then replace the stock heads after they've been ported? Like I said before, I had no big problems replacing the upper and lower intake and adding my nos kit, but I am a little aprehensive about messin around with the heads. If I'm simply removing the heads and replacing them with (basically) the same heads, are there going to alot of "precision" issues? Any special tools? Is it the kinda thing I can do in a weekend by myself?

Thx again guys! Oh yeah, and Rick, do you know if Perky is still around?

Hey hey! This thread is starting to turn into some kinda reunion. :D

But yeah Bill, I'm alive. It's been at least 2 years now. I think the last time I saw you I was still trying to solve the vacuum leak with my new setup. Well, sometime after that there was a big fiasco with my living situation and I lost my internet connection for a while so I dissappeared from Stangnet. And also during that time while working on the intake I managed to break off one of the tabs that hold down the upper, so it spent another few months in the garage while I was trying to get it welded back together. Anyway, to make the long story short, I got it back together and finally eliminated the vacuum leak and finished everything else off during the winter last year, and I ended up living back with parents again for a little while, so I've got a nice internet connection again. Nice to see ur stang is busting 10's NA these days. Looks really nice too! I saw your perksperformance.com webpage too, let me know if you want some help with that, I now have my own web design/hosting company.

I'm glad to see that not too much has changed around here, and it's definately good to be back. :D

1991 GT longblock, professional product RPM replica intake with yes a 75mm t/b stock injectors mass air meter, cold air induction and 41o gears and a motor with 185,000 with the stock clutch it went 13.4 at 99.?? with 26x10 slicks with a 1.74 60ft so your headed towards the low 13s check your timing set it to 16-20 advanced remove the sway bar and drive it like youstole it ,,,shift the car no higher than 5500 and youll be writing us back next week saying damn i went 13.6s lol pm me when you go back to the track again,,,ooooohhh get a few bqags of ice and a garbage back throw the ice in the bag and put it ontop the intkae between rounds the garbage bag will keep the water from getting al over the place good luck.......

Ok, so I just got back from going to the track again, and I am again dissapointed. Maybe it was just the heat today or something, but I ran even slower than last time. I played around with the shift points a lot, starting out with 5000, then 5200, then 5500, then 5800, and then 6 again. There didn't seem to be too much difference, all the times were within .2 of each other. My mph was also an average of 1-2 mph below what I got on my runs last time. The best run was a 14.3 @ 95 mph  (that was shifting around 5500, last time my best was a 14.1 shifting around 6). My timing is set as high as it can go (for some reason I can no longer turn the distributor far enough to set it above 15*?!), and the intake was iced between most runs (other than a couple times I went right back into the staging lanes instead of the pits). However, even after letting the engine cool down to 120* on my mechanical water temp gauge before going into the stagin lanes, by the time I made my run temp was up to 160* without even starting the engine (like I said it was a hot hot day).

Again, I don't understand these results. It does seem like this RPM intake is too much for my current setup, and is hurting my HP a good bit, and I'm thinking a lot about swapping the heads/cam and possibly even stepping down to the regular performer intake as well, but if there is some other problem with my current setup, I would like to address that first. What do you guys think? And does anyone know where some good head/cam swap articles can be found?

I have that same intake and if you match it with a set of EB RPM heads you will notice a hugh differance in power. Check out my mods in my sig, i have'nt takin it to the track yet but it pulls really hard from 3000 to 6000.

Good luck
