Anyone use manual as daily driver? Is it really as annoying as some say?

I think it depends on where you live. I drove a stick as a daily driver for 37 years, including about 5 1/2 years in Seattle and San Francisco, but when I bought my Mustang 27 months ago I got my first automatic because of Southern California traffic. I doubt that I'll ever go back to a stick as a daily driver, but I'd have one as a fun car. That's just me.

I use a manual as a daily driver - don't like automatics - no problem. Have lived in high traffic areas (even Baltimore) and low. Where I live now is medium. If you live in heavy traffic area, then you just need to develop different habits, such as putting it in neutral at lights and letting the clutch out to rest the leg.

The only problem in cities is the idiot automatic drivers that creep off from traffic lights so that you have to slip the clutch for half a block

... because you can't start that slowly (15 MPH half a block later, then 15 over the limit 500 yards down the road.....)

So no, it is not annoying if you know how to drive.

I had a friend that lived in L.A. that did the same thing. I remember giving him a hard time the first time I got in his Mustang and saw that it had a slush box in it. Without batting an eye, he just said "L.A. traffic".

Iv'e got a manual and It's not a problem for me.

I drove for years in LA traffic. In my 66 my leg would get really tired after an hour in traffic. Once I bought a 96 GT it was never a problem. Newer clutches take a lot less force to push down so you really should not have any problems.

There is no excuse for buying a new Mustang with an Automatic.

I drive 20/25000 miles a year in soCal traffic with a 5 speed...

but if I get an 05+ Mustang it may be an auto because the atuo shifter looks pretty cool

Yes there is. Because I want one and I can. It's personal preference.

It all depends on the individual. I drive a manual. But if I was still driving a truck. I would think about an automatic. Since the truck ****ch can REALLY wear on your knee. By the end of the day I was soo sore I almost couldn't shift my car. Hills are another reason people may want an automatic. Some people aren't proficient with a manual. There are just too many reasons to try and go for a popular opinion on things.

I've driven a manual all my life. I do prefer automatics in vehicles like SUVs and big luxury cars but for my new mustang I will definately be getting a manual. I lived in Las Vegas for 4 years with heavy traffic and had no trouble driving a manual.

Of course living in a place like San Fransico might be another story with the heavy traffic and all the hills but........IMO manual transmissions are just flat out more fun to drive in the right vehicle.

I drive a manual 4-speed with a realy heavy clutch, I prefer it to automatic even in traffic. It's easier to use throttle braking to follow the flow of traffic. If you learn to shift without the clutch it realy becomes no problem. Maybe I'm just distracted by the heat in my sweatmobile.

In my world an auto mustang does not exist. But i know that in L.A, its gonna be a nightmare, but i dont care ill take the back roads and small streets cuz in a new stang, getting there will be all the fun.

Two of the three cars i drive are manuals, the others a aod93 gt. To put it lightly Atlanta traffic sucks more than La now or atleast we have been rated number one a few times. I never drive the saleen in traffic, unless i am forced to or get stcuk behind a wreck. But besides that manuals suck in bumper to bumper traffic.

But if you dont live in LA, atlanta, new york , or seattle, get a manual.

i live in Queens NY and usually drive to nyc cuz its like 15 miles from me
rush hour traffic here every day does not move. it can literally take you an hour to travel a couple miles sometimes

thinking about a manual but il prolly end up with a auto
