Removing AODE

I'm in the process of swapping in a manual transmission. I am at the point of seperating the AODE from the car b. However, even though i've removed the engine-trans bolts, the bellhousing is hitting the underbody and won't clear. And no, the bellhousing can't be seperated from the tranny in the automatics.

I am under the impression that this is because the torque converter is still on the engine and i'm having to move the tranny farther back(which of course leaves no room). I drained the oil in the converter by removing the plug. And I just want to know what my options are of removing this POS auto tranny?

Also, is it possible to remove teh auto w/the converter still on the engine? If it is, i *could* bang up the undercarriage to make room so it clears then worry about the converter afterwards.

Doing the swap myself(no labor $). I'd say it can be done for $900 for all the parts including transmission. THis is assuming you have a full toolsetw/extensions and sockets to get in the tight spots.

Pain in the ass

I am doing the same thing right now and I cant get the damn bell housing to clear the torque converter. There are 4 bolts on the converter that keep it attached if you can remove the bolts you are home free. Problem is that the damn thing rotates so you have to figure out someway to keep if from spinning. If you figure it out let me know. O and while you have the exhaust out you might as well get some MIL eliminators to put inline with your rear O2 sensors.

also I went to aamco they will pull the tranny for 450.00 and put it on but as for installing the new clutch and what not it really ramps the price up. They wanted 1500 to rebuild mine, or just 650 to install a new pump. I spent less than 400.00 on the parts and am doing it myself.

98_stang_guy: Junkyard is the only way you could do it for $900 or even less. I actually helped the guy remove it since the donor vehicle just came in and was in the open, that way i'd understand how everything would be put back together.

Yep, same here bellhousing won't clear the underside. In my case, torque converter is still bolted onto flywheel/engine? What should my next step be? I know there's the bolt between the flywheel/flexplate and the engine adapter plate, that needs to be removed in other for tranny to clear?

Right now, the tranny is hanging on the input shaft.
