Very few have made their own Ram air set up. Most just dremel out part of the area under the hood scoop where the 99-00 GT grill insert was, then cut open the plastic. It just ventilates the engine, but at least it does something at all.
i thought about doing that but if you got a good gust of wind or were driving at higher speeds, i wouldnt be surprised if that scoop flew right off the hood.
They have the old karkraft ram air scoop kit. It's really expensive and IMO is not worth the money. Plus, I've heard they don't fit with a strut tower bar.
- Reinforcing the current stock scoop
- Air inlet swing door based on vacuum pressure
- Reinforced air scoop that attaches under the stock scoop
- 4 inch tubing
- Port attachment to stock air filter housing
I suspect I won't really see any HP improvement. I'm doing this as more of a hobby thing, and to just say - hey it's functional.
On a street car mid mounted hood scoops do very little. They mostly just allow outside air in. They are not in the right place nor are they a completly sealed system. So they really aren't forcing any air in at all. The Camaro SS and Mach 1 scoops are for looks. So I would say that chopping a good hood up isn't worth it at all.
