Chrome or Polished?

chrome only, unless you really really really like to spend your weekends polishing aluminum. The chrome is 100x more durable and maintainance free. Not completely maintainance free, just 100x easier. Aluminum rims don't hold a polish nearly as well as chrome does. It's worth the extra $150 for the chrome.

Well, actually I prefer the polished. I have SSR GT3's and they have the polished lip with a clearcoat. No polishing needed. So to say the chrome is easier will depend. If the Saleen polished wheels have a clearcoat, the maintenance would be no different. Polished wheels won't chip, chrome will.
Just my .02. Either will look awesome!

Just the lip is polished? Maybe because painted wheels are usually clearcoated. The reason I was looking at the polished is because the chrome rims on my car are all pitted and peeling. The woman who owned it before me didn't take care of them. These will be strictly a summer wheel though so I don't think I will have that problem. Anyone know what makes chrome get pitted and peel?

Poor quality, care, rocks, etc. A lot of knock off wheels that claim to be chrome plated really aren't. I have a friend going through this right now. He bought a set of 2 piece wheels for his F-body. He paid over 2g for the wheel/tire combo. The other day he used Eagle 1 chrome wheel cleaner on them and the "chrome" started peeling off before he could spray them off. He called Eagle 1 and they told him the wheel he has does not have a true chrome finish. It's a chrome like substance (didn't say what it was) and their product wasn't supposed to be used on it. That's poor quality if you ask me, especially for the price he paid. I don't know what the outcome is going to be, but I know I'd be raising a big stink if I were him.

Moral of the story...make sure that you are buying what you are paying for.

Yep, just the polished lip on mine, center piece is painted. However, my polished lip, especially on the rears, is quite large. Thats the look I wanted, that deep dish look. I just heard from a guy that worked at Discount Tire that the chrome wheels will peel eventually.

That's very true....if they aren't taken care of. If they are taken care of they will last just fine.
