310 modular motor, forged crank?

Hey guys, I am a member over at modularmustangs and got a question for you guys. I am having coast high performance build me a 310 modular stroker that I plan on running 15lbs of boost in. CHP is telling me I dont need a forged crank, only pistons and rods. What do you all think? I am a college kid on a budget, so the extra $1000 for the forged crank is a big deal. All replies appreciated. I think stangnet.com is going to be my new home

im a college kid too and your budget is way higher than mine, im preety sure the unforged crank hold up to high hp. im sure someone on here will now exact numbers. But why if a forged crank so much more? its usally only a few hundred extra.

hmm, if it were me i would just go ahead and get the forged crank. it may be $1000 now, but what if something happens down the line and you end up having to spend more than $1000 cause the stock crank busted. a little more now may save a lot in the future.

I went to Coast's page and checked out the 5.1L kits. Looks like in kit form the difference from nodualr iron to forged is $600.00, but if they build the short block it's $1000.00. I'd need to know what the extra $400 in the shortblock is for.

For a blower I'd have to agree with the others and say that the extra money for a forged crank is kinda like insurance. Yo umay never need it, but if you don't have and you break, you'd wish you had bought it cause you'll spend twice that to fix it.

It's a forged stroker crank though. 3.75 stroke vs. 3.55 stock.

I personally think why skimp on anything right now, do it right the first the time and be done with it.

I haven’t heard of nor seen any problems with the cast cranks and I have heard of a couple near 600rwhp and seen many 400+ rwhp cars with them. I still side with the forged crank; it’s the right way to do it!! I would definitely get that $400 knocked off the bill if you can that doesn’t seem right!!

If you want a stroker motor, you have to get a crank with a longer stroke.

Get the Forged one. Dont skimp on parts.

Not sure why the crank is $1000 extra, but I will be calling tomorrow. Go to florida state during fall and spring, and go to pittsburgh in the summer to work. I am in the boilermakers union here. We are certified welders that work in power plants. The heat sucks in the plants, but they pay us $29 an hour, plus $4.00 an hour for annuity, $2.50/hour pension, $1.50/hour savings fund on top of our $29/hour. everything after 8hrs is time and a half, sunday is double time. That is how I am affording my project, along with money from the army national guard
