Ok, so today I noticed at all red lights that my car/engine does this little thing kind like pulling me in bumps and stuff. It's very weird, no clue what it might be, any ideas? It's difficult to describve, it's like it pulls forward but now at a steady pace, like pull ... pull ... pull ... etc. It's only when I'm at a light or my car is stopped. 97 Auto GT, any help appreciated.

Its is your trans. I don't know what causes them to do it but it is deffinately the transmission. I think when they do that they are slippin in and out of first. That would cause the pull..........pull.........pull.

Well i don't know a whole lot about auto trans but I'm pretty sure that it sounds like it is slippin in and out of first. Don't know what causes it so i don't have a clue how mush $ it would be. I'd say call a transmission shop and talk to them.

Its called "surging" and it happens when the fuel/air mixture is really screwed up. What happens is the engine ingests a rich mixture then coughs on it (pauses), the computer tells it to lean out the mixture and so it does (revs), this cycle repeats. Also happens in carbed cars when the mixture jets are wrong. You need to take it to Ford for service.

sry, maybe I should refrase. When I say slippin i don't slippin like a trans slips goin into third gear or somthing. I guess I should say it is jump into nuetral and back into drive over and over again.

Thats what I think too. Thats why I was wondering if his rpms jump at all.

Well that recall is for 94-95 and mine is a 97 so I guess that's probably not what it is, so i can chop off your pinkies. Do they normally charge you if you take it to ford to see what it is?

I did find a list of recalls, wonder if it's any of these: http://www.alldata.com/TSB/19/971949C9.html ...

My pinky toes are :owned:

Yeah, take it to a Ford dealer, if it's still under warranty they'll fix it for you for free. If not you know your car will be fixed and it's $$$ well spent.

...my 93 aod recently swaped from a 4cyl is also doing this same exact thing.....

I have all new plugs wires, etc

anyone know if the TV cable adjustment has anything to do with this?

and my rpms do change with the surge, it's happens at a stop light, or driving really slow... it reminds me of when driving a standard and jerking the car a bit in 1st when it's touchy... I'm sure people see my creeping in 1st finding a parking spot...think I have a 5 speed and I can't drive! it's like rooom..rooom..room...without pushing on the thottle

it happens at a stop and in both 1st and 2nd. the symptom is not noticable or non existant when I'm on the throttle after 1500 rpms. when I'm not on the throttle that's when it does it regardless of gear.....

I have allot of ideas, like the ones mentioned and also not sure which thing could be at fault?
throttle postion sensor, Throttle cable, TV cable, fuel/air ratio, torque coverter, or tranny.

I can tell you I know my tranny is in bad shape and OD is toast...i will have it rebult or replaced in the next few weeks.
