I am hoping some of the guys with some time working with the 4.6L 2V's will step up and share some of their knowledge.
I am thinking of buying a 99 Mustang GT and building me a daily driver that will lay down 500 RWHP but be a very relaible and durable street car.
Some of my thoughts are: it will definitely have to be supercharged to achieve my goal and the Vortech S-trim has been one of the most durable units made. Is there a more relaible unit than an S-trim??
Obviously it will have to have a solid shortblock, all forged components. The only question there is what brand Piston due you run and where do you try and keep your compression ratio so that you stay clear of detonation and have some off the line torque.
Now for the heads and cams. I have no clue where to start on them?? I would hope somebody has a setup that has good low end and fromn there the supercharger will take over.
Any info or comments would be appreciated.

$5k to build the motor w/reliable bottom end.
$5k for EVERY bolt on
$4k-$5k for blower/install/dyno tune

$15k for reliable 500 rwhp on top of the cost of the car.

OR

2003 Cobra w/pulley, exhaust, cold air intake, dyno tune

hmmmm.....I'd go with the snake.

the S trim is a good blower. but if you go with a bigger blower, it will be easier to make more power. the Vortech T trim is a popular upgrade. also the Paxton NOVI 2000 kicks ass. but you can still hit 500rwhp with the S trim.

CP, Manley or JE pistons. 17cc will give you 8.9-9.0 compression.

you can wind up the blower to 17psi with an intercooler and get near 500rwhp without touching the heads or intake. but port and polishing the heads and new cams is probably a better way of making power. you will lose a little low end power with ported heads, but nothing significant. if you pick the right cams, you may not lose any low end power. if you are looking for a ton of low end power, check out the Kenne Bell blower.

Don't forget all the other things that add up real quick: Fuel system, MAF, Dyno tune, exhaust, tires, etc.
500 reliable rwhp and the word "budget" don't go hand in hand.
The more effiecient N/A motor you have, the better boosted motor you will have. If you go with such parts as a bullitt intake, P&P heads, and custom cams your motor will make the 500 whp on less boost.
You might want to start with a reliable 400whp motor, and then move up from there as you save money.

4.6 02 blackgt has the right idea. a forged block (8.5:1) and a healthy amount of boost is a good, safe, reliable way of making power

the kb s/c i think is pretty much complete with the fuel and maf upgrades in the kit. you really don't need to worry about new cams or heads, the weak point on the 4.6 is the internals when it comes to making power

combine the added boost with a good high-flow exhaust and 500rwhp (which is alot, btw) shouldn't be too difficult to reach :nice:

Sorry, no offense intended (toward anyone), but I've seen this time and time again. Here's another newbie dreamer (he doesn't even own the car he's asking you to build for him) and everyone is jumping on this bandwagon talking about this supercharger and that supercharger, don't forget about this and do you really think you can do that, etc, etc, etc. Guys, do you really get off virtually building a 500 HP engine that doesn't even exist? Get the car, do some research and reading, and then ask specific questions. This thread really belongs in Talk because that's what it really is...just Talk.

True.

I don't see this directed towards me, so no comment.

Absolutly. A 500whp, reliable daily driver in no joke. Those kind of numbers and investment in money usually end up turning the car to weekend/strip duty.
Buy the car. Save your money. And start with a much lower HP goal and then move on up from there. And if your stuck on big HP #'s, take StngStr's advice and buy an '03 Cobra.

my .02
forged bottom end 3k-3.5k
kbsupercharger 5k
maf+ cold air .5k

so you are looking at about 9k min. IMO. this would get you close but what are the odds you are going to buy the car and have the extra 10k laying around. or would you just throw that on credit as well. that would put you very upsidedown in the vehicle. now if you could pay cash for one or the other then it would make some sense I guess but borrowing 20k to have a car worth 15k tops is not finacially smart. that is why I paid my car off this year so I can start putting money into it. not just go into more debt will still paying for the car.

In all reality, if you wanna do that look for a high milage v6 for dirt cheap. Why not?!? cuz your gonna have to relpace almost everything anyway....you could get most the engine accesories on Ebay or in junk yards and save some change. I would get an electric water pump anyway. or really high millage gt, you get the idea.

I had the same original goal as you, Rob. Thanks to an AWESOME new cam grind, T&J Performance went WAY over my expectations in terms of HP and ended up with the new numbers in my sig.

T&J Performance did most of my work. If you would like more info on the specs and numbers and stuff, feel free to ask or even pm me.
