6.17 gears too much?

ok, the mach 1 has an aluminum block and heads. the block is NOT a 01 cobra block, nor is it a 03 cobra block. ford designed a new 4.6 aluminum block that is used in the mach 1, the marauder, and the aviator. the heads are the same as a 03 cobra, however the cams in the mach are different. the automatic mach 1 has a cast crank, and revs to around 6000ish and makes 308hp, the manual has a forged crank, revs to 7000ish and makes 310hp. the mach 1 uses a navigator intake cam and then a custom exhaust cam.

on the topic of gears, i have seen 6.17type gears in the strange engineering catalog, however i dont think i have seen them for a 8.8. those gears are used for oval racing where you keep the motors at 7k+ for the duration of the race. automatics did not have 3.55s as was stated earlier, how do i know this, i worked at a dealer and when i looked up gears for a friends 98 automatic 3.55 was not an option in stock form.

Why the hell does every thread on here go way off topic.. Want to argue the differences in the DOHC motors? Do it in another thread..

Here I'll post something on topic..

The chick's webpage on cardomain.. A bunch of people in her guestbook commented on her gears and she made a rebuttal on the bottom of the page page. Also some pics of her on there..

Unless she means 03/04 Cobra motor, she will dissapointed when her car gets slower.........

The mach 1 motor is VASTLY superior to the 99/01 Cobra motors. 03 Cobra heads(flow better than 99/01), navigator cams(GT's low end, Cobras topend) and an 01 Cobra intake. This motor rocks.
If you're going to go the blower route, just keep the boost below 10psi. IF you are going for insane amounts of boost, then rebuild it for lower compression - you are going to have to rebuild the cobra motor anyway. The mach 1 will stay make more power with the blower becuase of it's better heads and cams.

Sorry, been busy. But yea thats what I thought. If you look back I KINDA figured what she would be doing at 6K...think it was 80-100 MPH with a 28 inch tire I believe, would be like 60 with the stock 25-26 inch tire and about 80-85 or so with the cobra engine. She is going to go through engines FAST.Feel free to leave her a little something in the G book...I really hate to see her mess up that car LOL.

Take your own advice.

Plus, while you're at it, tell me why you and your infinite wisdom put 3.73's in an N/A GT.

3.73 for a NA GT is a fine gear, much improved over the 3.27's and a TON over some of the 2.73'd GTs out there. The ET diff between 4.10 and 3.73s is very minimal.. For a street car that rarely sees strip action and a lot of highway miles, 3.73s make a perfect gear...

Correct to a point. It is the old Cobra engine, not the one in the supercharged Cobras.

the Mach 1 has different heads, cams, and intake than the N/A Cobras had.

And as far as gear ratios go, for all you nimrods out there that where arguing about it, yes automatic trannied GT'S have 3.55 gears in them, not 3.27. It has been like that since 1996.

how much do you want to bet? seriously. $1000?

Get your facts straight and stop posting false info!

if you are going to talk smack, it helps to know what the hell you are talking about.

I guess my rearend must have been for another car since I pulled 3.08s outta it when I dropped in my 3.73s(I know they suck -so don't remind me. I didn't know much about stangs at the time.)

And, dude, it's not the old Cobra motor.......get YOUR facts straight. The 99/01 DOHC was a good motor, but the mach1 motor will rip it up.

You'd have been better off leaving the 4.10's outta your post. It would have been better ;)

3.73-3.27=.46
4.10-3.73=.37

Not even a full tenth difference in the 2. So, why would it matter to go from 3.27-3.73, and not be so much as to go to 4.10????

I switched 4.10's to 4.30's, and the difference is very nice.
