Anyone install PI intake without tune?

Anyone install PI intake without a tune? i have thinking about putting the pi intake on my car but if it will need a tune i'm not ready to spend that much money right now. So how many people installed the intake and its running fine without a tune.

It would be perfect is anyone has had their car on a dyno and checked the a/f ratio with the intake.

I did the whole PI headswap without a tune. I really think I need to get one though, but I'm not done with the mods yet.

The ports are different on the heads between the PI and Non-PI's. So you can't swap the intake without the heads. And a tune is definetly neccessary after the swap. That's not to say it won't run, but it will be a whole different beast with the tune.

it should be fine , just make sure you silicone it right the first time , personally i would spend the extra on the livernois kit or make you own adapter plates and get longer bolts , but thats just me , plenty guys have done it without issues but it would run better with a tune , but should run better none the less without the tune ....

i had the PI intake put on my 98 GT up at Livernois Motorsports cause the stock one cracked, it was around $900 with the intake kit included and labor. theres no need for a tune, its just like any other bolt on mod. if you have the TIME and expertise do it yourself and save some money.

Well, we are both right. The Non-PI ports don't line up to a PI intake and won't directly fit. BUT livernois does make an adapter that mates them up. I had forgotten that they made an adapter for it.

It will run but get a tune up. My a/f is 17.1 and the shop say on 93 gas for my baby or $$$. You should up the fuel line and injected to be safe! O i don't have a tune up, but i have a 14.1 in a droptop 97 auto

The Pi Intake can be put on the NPI Heads, and it'll cost about $65 for the parts to enable it to match up.

$199 for the Pi Intake from Summit.

Got a PI intake on my 98 GT with no tune and no adapter plates. Definite SOTP increase in power starting at around 3k rpm but no dyno to show for it. I think you'll have a hard time finding someone who went through the effort of getting a dyno with widestream O2 monitor and not get a tune while they're at it.
The mismatch will decrease flow but increase turbulence, which could improve fuel atomization. Bottom line is the plates aren't a must for those who refuse to be ripped off for something that shouldn't cost more than $100.

somone is probibly leaving 3-4rwhp on the table without plates, but with a 10+rwhp difference and 20+@5600 rpm who can argue.

Also our fuel injection is not putting any fuel into the intake, the injector is sitting right over top the intake port, and not leaving fuel bottlenecked in the intake runner. does the overlap help? no. but other than a tiny alteration with a little rtv sealant it doesn't hurt.

do a quick search on corral or MD.com and then come back and apologize for your false information.

not my swap the only mods the guy had were pullies, T/A, and midpipe. this dyno reflects the intake. i'll be installing my intake this week.

I would never have thought that it would work well being mismatched, but if you say so, I'll take your word for it. I had always heard the ports were different at didn't match up, so I assumed it wouldn't work, but I guess I assumed wrong. Swap away.

Using my best judgement by looking at the two ports and gaskets, the mismatch is only on the inside edge by about 1/8" at the most. The outside edges line up pretty well. I know that it is important to have a very smooth transition from the intake to the head port, so your assumption that this would be a problem is valid, Carl. I had tons of problems with mismatched ports on 302 heads/intakes.
My guess as to why the mismatched ports perform at all in this case is that the airflow is concentrated on outside walls of the port. We lucked out, perhaps. Any airflow on the inside wall might introduce some turbulence that might affect peak hp, but could possibly improve midrange torque.
Bottom line - yep, it works and it's a cheap mod for an NA car looking for quick HP.

(Also figured out my problem today about the #3 misfire.. the wires were shot, and the plug wasn't even throwing a spark.. it was just shooting out of the plug..... What a relieve!)

That is funny I had my car done by outlaw racing turbo. You know the people with the GT that ran 8.78 ! I know you didn't know that! O, yes I am going to change 17.1 when I buy my house! DO I KNOW? That was funny!
