I'm running 17x10.5 Black Bullitts and Im worried they are a little on the heavy side and just slowing me down.

What do you all think of wheels such as the 17x9 Ultralite Steedas , or any other lightweight rim? Or is it worth the money to get a set of 15 inch rims that don't weigh much just for track use?

Isn't each pound on the drivetrain line about 10X more "heavy" compared to other weight on the car? For instance, I'm thinking about putting an AL driveshaft, and its 6 lbs lighter. Since its a drivetrain component, I figure that is worth about 60lbs in weight savings. However, my wheels are very heavy compared to what else I could probably find, is it worth it? I'm happy with the wheels otherwise, I just think 17x10.5 is probably a little on the heavy side compared to what else I could get.

theres a thread on modular depot with just about every wheel and its weight.

to be honest the steeda ultra lites are like 5 lbs lighter, max. Now 5 times 4 is 20, you would be losing some weight but not a WHOLE lot

i would just get some 15 in with some nice tires for the track

well, multiplying 5 pounds on both back rims... thats 100lbs weight savings or am I wrong?

I can't even remember where I remember reading that driveline weight is 10X more worthwhile to cut away at.

From what i've read and heard, a good rule of thumb is for every 100 lbs of sprung weight you lose, you drop about .1 off your ET and for every 10 lbs of unsprung weight(roating mass on the drive train) you drop .1 off 1/4 mile times. So going by that i would think that you are right in that driveline weight loss is worth 10 times body weight loss. Just my .02

absolutly guys!! rotational mass is slowing down cars a lot more than the other factors. its why the sport compact market has put a lot into lighter smaller fly wheels and lighter brake disks. they see a greater gain than with changing a hood to carbon fiber. It makes them faster than other weight loss techniques, just like were seeing.

hahahah... I like them for daily driving, they are mean looking wheels, I'm thinking a great way to speed my car up at the track would be to get some lightweight smaller wheels and good rubber. good for probably 3 or 4 tenths....

I just want to see what things I can do to hopefully see 12.99 with my 00 vert once I put the NX 100 shot in.
