Plugs to block smog pipe on back of heads

  • Sponsors (?)

I used a Dremel to cut off the metal hose and then just reversed the metal plugs and I have had no problems at all.

This did not cost me a cent. :nice:
Why pay Ford when this works just perfect.
Oh, because it takes work to saw off the pipe, and the result is kinda tacky. The inserts from Ford cost a couple of bucks and are made for the purpose. And once you destroy the thermactor, you would have to pay for a new one if there was ever a reason to reattach it ... and I'm betting it will cost more than a couple bucks.

Seriously, there are better ways to save money, if you can't afford a couple bucks for the inserts you probably can't afford this hobby :D.

Dave

Even cheaper....
Next time you change your plugs, take two old ones and cap that ****** off...lol
They are right about the caps, I'm gonna get those suckers this week...thanks for the reminder.

Yeah the result is tacky and you can't even see them. I will never have to replace it for any reason. I "should" just give up on this hobby b/c I can't afford it. I should sell my car now cuz I need the $$$ the 20K i put in it over the winter has got me broke. Seriously, you should think before you post about someone's financial ability.

Fair enough. I'm all into the free stuff. I like the idea of using spark plugs better though. I think that would look a little better.

the caps are great but trying to get them in the head while there still on the car is a pain esspecially if the hole are clogged with carbon the spark plugs work great because you can thread them in and clean out the carbon

You seem a little sensitive about that, I apologize if I offended you. It is my opinion that anyone willing to spend money on their engine should be willing to do it right, and cutting up the thermactor setup to save $2 is pretty ghetto.

Dave

It's all good just had to defend my ghetto set-up. :nice:
I had no idea that Ford sold the plugs when I did this mod a couple weeks ago. I would have left the whole set up there but someone elses thread said that this could be done and I did it the exact same way. Next time I blow a HG I will spend the $2 that it cost to do it and maybe have them chrome plated.

i want to take my smog junk off too, when i look at the smog hoses and such i see a few electrical wires running into a plastic wire loom from some sort of metal looking canister thing. what do i do with these wires if i take off my smog stuff completly? will it mess anything up in my car like any sensors or somthin, what are the point of these wires anyways?

Those are not wires, they are vacuum lines, and they operate the valves in the smog equipment. If you remove the smog stuff, I'd seal them.
