A friend of mine just recently bought a contour svt. He let me drive it around for a little while and I ended up liking it more than my fox 5.0. Im thinking about buying one now. I was just wondering if there were any other models out there that are about the same performance level that I could look into? The 2.5 had great pull I thought and the 5 speed is really what made me want to buy one. OOOO that and the 22mpg.

It was a 98. Im just looking around for a more fuel efficient car. I want to know if there is some other model out there similar to the contour svt. I like to do a lot of research on things before I buy them.

well heres the deal...what are you looking for besides fuel effiecent? brand, year, model, etc... ford makes the zx esscort with the same idea as the contour (gas milage, the stick can run 15's in the quarter mile) ... not sure if there is much of adiffernce between the svt and the zx besides the body kit ;) The contour is a nice car, with decent mpg, there are other cars out there (differnt companys) that are just as nice with a little less hp and more mpg. Basicly just depends on what you have to spend and what your preferences are.

ps: since your talking about an svt vehicle, maybe the svt forum might be more help?

ZX2

ZX3 is nice and fast, but your gonna pay into the teens for one. A ZX2 moderately modified will take an SVT. But the zetec engines are different in the ZX2 and the Focus line up. The ZX2 has VCT(Variable Cam Timing), while the Focus does not. But the Focus has an aftermarket complete with decent turbo kits and superchargers, the ZX2 does not. The ZX2 to watch out for however is the ZX2 S/R(Street Racer) which comes with Borla exhaust, Tokico struts, Eibach springs, short throw shifter, Centerforce clutch, better computer, Special S/R badges, Iceman Intake(i think thats it). They are relatively rare but with some looking can be found. They come in red(very rare), black(common), and yellow(common also, but color comes only in S/R). They have 143hp and torque in the lower 130's. The best timeslip anybody has run is a 15.4 and average 33mpg highway. I want one but will prolly end up getting a normal ZX2 with the upgraded computer. But if your looking for fun and decent gas mileage, this is your car. Its fun to blow a Honda out of the water and tell them they just got beat by an Escort. :p . So look around for some! Good Luck! :nice:

Since when is 22 mpg something to brag about? Hell my thunderbird gets 25 mpg and it weighs around 3500 lbs.

Also, I could understand less than half of modmustang2.3t's post.

22mpg is a big deal when you are used to getting anywhere from 15-18 city with a 5.0...getting 18 in my truck is making me jump for joy, as i am used to more like 12 or 13. its all relative

I was going to say that definately.

Notice there isn't one of those on my list. I did find one about a week ago. I'll spend the next month drilling him on a price. :nice:

Sorry but you and that list has me  my head.

15-18 mpg  God if only my Tahoe got that I would be Sh$$ing in high cotton :nice:

Things to do to improve you mpg in a 5.0L

1) try shifting around 1800 or less instead of 5k ;)
2) quicker shifts
3) don't look like a idoit driving around in a low gear so people can here your flows a 1/4 mile away while you're doing 20 mph
4) You got a OD use it
5) try using the right fuel for the job...if you are running under 9:5.1 use 87-89 octain fuel. if you are running 10:1 use 91-92 and with you are running more compression without a aluminum head park that sucker :D
6) For Pets sake check your tire pressure its a proven fact if off on pressure it can cost you fuel.
7) swap in some smaller tires instead of the 255's
8) stop reving the hell out of it even damn time you stop at a light.
9) stop reving the hell out of it right before you cut it off
10) stop reving it at me because My quite mouse motor is justing going to beat you anyways :nice:

91-96 Escort GT w/ GTX motor swap+boost controller

13's and still get ~25-30 mpg

WTF, a Escort doing 13's and boosted :bang: :D I need to see these cars anyone got a link to one of them? Also is these those exported ones or was these avalable in the US  I just need to know what to look out for :D

Escort website

GTX is the Mazda 323 turbo block and has about 145hp-165hp to it. That is actually the best alternative for fast with good gas mileage. But anyways here's the website: www.escortracing.com. There is actually a low 14 sec all motor escort for sale in the classified section. But if you can get a escort with a GTX engine, I wanna ride!

Me and a friend have been looking over the 1.6 DOHC turbo engine. Last night he bought a 91 capri w/ a 1.6 turbo. After looking, laughing, and looking some more We will be putting that in his festiva pretty soon. It seems like it will work pretty good and I didn't know that made even 145hp stock.
A year ago I saw a turbo dodge omni that was smokin 5.0's and was mostly stock. So we're going to have the Ford response to that. :D
