i replaced my t5 with another because the one i had when i bought it the 2nd gear was grinding. any way i got the new (or used) one in and the clutch catches waayyy to high. it doesnt catch until i take my foot completely off of it. even then its still not fully engaged because i have a major loss of power. if i stab the throttle, say in 3rd gear around 3 grand from a cruise, it will break loose and rev to about 5 or 6 grand while still in gear. how do i adjust a clutch? thanks in advance.

do yoou still have the factory quadrant on there? if so, take it off, its a piece of junk. get a upr triple hook quadrant and firewall adjuster with a new ford oem cable from MM or somewhere that has them pretty cheap.

geez! how much they cost? where to get em'? and what is involved in the installation? thiers no way to adjust the stock stuff for the time being? thanks again.

the stock piece is a kind of ratcheting thingy. it sucks. the upr quadrant was like 34 bucks and the firewall adjuster was the same price i think. both of them are really good pieces though. the cable is around 60 bucks i think. i dont know how to adjust the stock quadrant to loosen the cable, i know how to tighten it...but that doesnt help

well im new to fox mustangs. this is my first and i got it about 2 months ago. where do i get the upr? how to install? it looks like i could adjust it on the firewall but like i say im new to foxes.

he's right about the firewall adjuster and quadrant

read this

you likely didn't reset your clutch adjustment when the new trans was in, and the cable is set too tightly on the oem quadrant.

for now, pull up on the clutch pedal hard with your foot, you'll hear a click, then press down. This activates the oem adjuster. If that doesn't work, head to

uprproducts.com, or maximummotorsports.com for a quadrant and firewall adjuster.

2 ideas...

with the motor off push in the clutch and slide your foot off it...Let it bang back up...Thats one way to get it to adjust...

The other way you have to stand on your head and get up under the dash by the acceclerator pedal...find the 'white" plastic ratchet the cable hooks to and feel behind it for the "pawl" that engages the teeth on the plastic...Push it away from the teeth and you can move the part with the teeth so the pawl engages in a different spot...Careful it might move on it's own, I forget if it's on a spring...

Forget which way does what you want so try both...

If the stock part isn't broke and you can get it to work, why pay for something that does the same thing????

that's a fantastic way to snap a clutch cable, and possibly damage your transmission and clutch components.

I've actually heard of this, and tried it, it is spring loaded, and I couldn't get the damn thing to budge for the life of me.

the bottom line is that if you pull up on the clutch pedal, and then depress it, and your clutch isn't adjusted properly after that, your stock setup IS bad, and it's time to replace it with an aftermarket quadrant and firewall adjuster.

doesnt pulling up on the pedal tighten the cable? because i know thats what you are supposed to do when the cable would stretch or the clutch would wear down a little bit. hes havin a problem with it catching too high. hmm...

pulling up on the pedal disengages the two plastic quadrant pieces from each other. Pushing back down on it will reset it. For that reason, it could either tighten or loosen the adjustment based on what is needed.
