octane boosters

Whoooooaaaaa wait a minute.....

You dont have any mention of a timing advance on your car. I once added 2 bottles of STP octane booster in my car before a trip to go drag racing. My car bucked like a bastard under 2,000rpm for about 2-3 weeks after the tank was filled and flushed a few times. Before you go mixing rocket fuel into your tank, dont go nuts with it. I was probably running under 100 octane on the stock timing and the car bucked and stalled like mad. Do what you want, but my advice is to leave the gas alone.

I mentioned that I just had my car's computer reflashed (tuned) through T&J which ADVANCED THE TIMING. I need to run 93 octane at Tim's suggestion, now, but I currently have a FULL tank of 87. I only want to add enough octane booster to raise the current tank's octane closer to the recommended 93 until I can add 93. Sorry if my initial post was confusing....

I'm in the same boat as you....but I thought he said 91??? Are you sure he said 93? I only ask because I forgot!!! :bang:

In the winter the gas is oxygenated so octane ratings will go down to save emissions.

The octane specs don't change during winter but the vapor pressure spec will.

If you don't want to boost the octane or drain the tank just putt around town, you'll burn through it quick enough.

Which product works better? Xylene or Toulene? I can get either one for around 4.50 a gallon(employee discount at Ace Hardware). I'm doing a head swap on my car and i have a good bit of 87 octane left in my tank that i want to bring up to a non-detonating level. anyone try both products and notice a difference in them?

I ran the hypertune (set for 93 oct as recommended by hypertech) but HI only has 92 octane. I do hear a very slight pinging in the engine when I accelerate and wondering will it hurt anything. Does 1 octane difference really matter or should I just put the factor's tune back in?
