Reasons for V6

I'm just oddly curious about V6 mustangs. I figured most people buy V6 stangs because they cant afford the V8. I'm 17 and paying for 100% of my car and cant have insurance that is too high. Sure i'm taking what little other money i have from my full-time summer job to get the usual upgrades. But it almost seems like some people got their V6 because theyd rather have that than a V8. I've seen quite a few V6's with $10k or more in body, interior, and engine work done. Theres no doubt if I could afford a GT or Mach 1 (for me, used of course) , it'd be bought. Maybe i'm just blinded by money.....and thats why I'd like to ask everybody here...

Why do own a V6?

Anyone who'd choose a V6 over a 8?

Hmm, well honestly, my grandma bought me my car when I turned 16 so i kinda had to appease her, & obviously she wouldnt want me to have some major sports car (ie a GT w/ V8 engine)......and back then i didnt know much about cars anyway. i'm just really mad i didnt get a manual... and now i would love to sell my car (I have an '01 V6) and get a 99 GT....cuz i found out i could do that w/o putting hardley any money down.....but I know my parents & my grandma wouldnt go for that. so I'm modding instead (not that I wouldnt if i got a V6 =D )

Anyway, I wouldn't chose a V6 over a GT or Cobra or Saleen...etc (i think that seem obvious though)

It all comes down to price.
You're 17, so you have more than just initial cost to think about. You're insurance is gonna suck for 8 more years.

When I was getting ready to go to college, I was planning on leaving my '66 at home, and driving my dad's spare car ('92 Sentra) that was just sitting in the driveway. But my mom wanted me in something newer, so my dad suggested I get a V6 Mustang. So now I have 2, and my little sister got a 2001 V6 for her 16th b-day a year ago.
One kid in her grade told me he wants to be in my family since my parents keep putting us in Mustangs. :D

But my options were look at a V6 Mustang or something comparable in price, which is basically a bunch of economy cars. The only car I would've considered was an SE-R Sentra, but I thought the Mustang would look better, and it has more Hp. :nice:

Wheres my free car?
That's what i'm saying! lol. My graudation present my mom put up her credit for me to get the 0% financing at the Osama Bin Laden sale, and they both put down $1k on it. Still better than nothing, but not a free car...I got that a year and a couple months later after a 76 yr old t-boned me and totaled my 01. 4 days in ICU, no lasting problems, free car. Can't beat it with a stick! lol. :D

Anyway, I chose the v6 for a few reasons. 1) overall cost. I couldn't afford to make a GT car payment.
2) insurance. I was 17 when I got my 01 coupe, and now i'm in an 02 vert.
3) it's a vert. I had a choice between an 02 GT coupe and an 02 v6 vert...car same price and insurance the same. I like the vert.
4) People actually believe me when I say I bought it myself and pay the insurance on it.
5) i would still be in jail if it was a GT.....I spent one night in there for doing 115 in a 40 back in november...of course I was doing about 85-90 in a 65 in a little po-dunk town, 2am. I now know why the say hold onto our soap in the shower......THAT STUFF'S SLIPPERY! ok bad joke mercy laugh, lol.
6) GAS! 'Nuff said.

Well, Im with CHRISYELLOWV6 on all of the reasoning behind choosing a V6 over a V8. I could of gotten any kinda mustang I wanted but I knew that the more the car note was the less money Id have in my pockets. And given my driving record in the last 2 years my insurance would go sky rocket if I would of gotten a V8 instead of V6, which it still went up from what I was paying before but not by too much.

well, in my family, mustangs come natural as well.
When my bro was almost 16, he got his 1994 white V-6 5spd Mustang.
Then, when he turned 17 he got his 01' Silver Conv GT, only reason he got a conv is it had a rollbar, and good price.
When i was almost 16, i got my 1995 Green V-6 5spd Mustang.
We got them early, so as by the time we were able to drive them, we would have had enough time to modify them (Dual Exhaust, CAI, and all that other stuff in my sig) To me, the V6 has enough power as my first car, after all im only 16, but i would never have bought an automatic =X
Im thinking i will get a GT or something faster (Subie STI, i wish =D)when i turn 18, then my little brother, who is 13 now, would be just old enough to get my car, (which he wants (he thinks its awesome)) not to mention i dont plan on racing it competitionally, but of course i can always piss of ricers, i love the way my car sounds (i needs to gets a sound clip)

i came home from work one day and there a V6 mustang sat. my parent had bought it for me (well they paid $5k and i paid $1k) and i love it. it is a V6, it is an automatic, it does not have any power...but i love the car and wanna keep it as long as possible. a kid at school's dad still has his first car that he got when he was 16, a 1970 mach 1 mustang...i guess its a real show stopper. i know if i sell my car, when i get in my 30's i'll regret selling it, so i wanna hold on to it. i'll stop rambling now.

Ya why do you need a V6 when you can do the same or more with a I4 :D Ok bad joke I know but really not everyone who buys a Mustang gets them for racing. There are people who just like Mustangs but don't want all the extra power of a V8. Now I'm sure non of those people are members of SN either :p

I am a college student and cant afford anything else for one, and it has a decent aftermarket and decent base to build from, true the 99 ups are only mid 15 sec cars stock but look at all the cars out there that are in that same range that people spend twice as much for and rice out?

for the 3 grand~ i have invested in performance i can out perform a 99 up gt in acceleration and cornering all day long (stock of course or near stock) about the only thing im not happy with is the sound, its ok and all but you cant get the v8 sound with out a odd fire v8....

i paid 13,500 for the car with all tax and title added in so i have probably 16-17k in it

same goes for me too

1. price
2. insurance
3. gas (although im not really sure about this one, my v6 gets 17 mpg so it cant be much better than a v8)

and people ask me all the time: "hey man why'd you get a slow v6??? why not get a gt? hahaha" and i try to explain but i still get laughed at :( but ill show them one day when i get blown...

oh and ChrisYellowV6, i wanna hear more about your #5 story... i always wondered what would happen if i passed a cop going that fast... :D

:nice: Hey, I didn't buy the Stang to race it. It's never even seen a drag strip. I bought it for these reasons:
1. I like the Mustang look
2. I've had a V8 before (01 GT) and I really was disappointed in it's performance. I didn't see enough power difference to fork out the extra payment money and insurance money, not to mention gas. Plus I wanted to avoid V8 syndrome. (Thinking that my car is the $hit b/c I have 60 more HP than a V6. )
3. Mod money. I could have a V8 but I'd rather have a V6 that's customized to my liking. One of my fav things to do when a V8 comes up next to me and starts revving is to crank up my system so I can't hear them at all. They tend to really hate that, but, oh well. :D I wouldn't be able to have a kick a$$ radio system if I had a GT. I probably wouldn't even have exhaust.
4. Personal preference. The V6 has everything I want and then some for a fraction of the cost. It's always funny to me to pass an 03 Cobra or a Roush that's sitting in traffic. Just think, they paid all that extra money for more engine and, at 10 mph bumper to bumper, it's not doing them any good. :D
That said, I like the I4 Stangs :nice: I had a 1981 4-banger Stang for my first car...it may not have been much to look at but it was sure fun to drive....and I could go a week on gas too. :D

I bought mine while i was in college, it was the right price at the right time. I could've fell into buying a different car, just the stang caught my eye. I would have liked a V8, but i'm sure gas would've killed me. My v6 gets bad enough milage as it is. Insurance isn't an issue with the company I"m with, they told me if the car was 9-10 years old, insurance would be close to the same, V8 or V6. 10 bucks difference. My family has like 15 cars on there policy though. It all depends on what you want.

my reasons were pretty simple... 15k was the max that my credit union would give me (for a new car, less for a used one) and a v6 stang was pretty much the best car overall that i could find for the $$$. plus after driving a POS, i really wanted a NEW car, not some old 80's 5.0 that would just give me more headaches. a gt would've been cool, but i really don't care. V6 or V8, they both serve the same purpose in the end, one just does it for less money...

oh, and when i graduated i got luggage...

After owning manual transmissions and automatics over the years, I've come to the conclusion manual transmission cars are for weekends, or sparsely populated areas where there is light weekday traffic. Believe me, the fun of having a gearshift goes away quickly when you're commuting in stop and go traffic. And, there's alot of that in your neighborhood. Mine too (greater SF bay area).
