I just recently purchased a 2000 V-6 for 7gz and 52k miles and am looking to start improving its performance. I have no clue where to begin as far as increasing my hp. In time I will purchase a SC for it. But for now where do I start ? For real I am not mechanically inclined in the least. I have read and managed to confuse myself to NO end some of the discussions on the boards.

Anyone with advice out there ?

Not looking to spend my life savings on it, but we need more hp !

What Exactly is the UD Pulley system do for me ? And Would Pulleys And Chains Help ?

No Worries, I Will Get Better At Explaining My Dilemma !

The pulley will give you about 8-10 HP good for about 180.00 And you should be able to install it in about 2 hours if you have the right tools. You will need a new belt. I have it and everything works fine. It relives some stress that pumps put on your engine. A good place to start, then check out E-bay for a cold air intake about 75-100 bucks another 8 HP less than 1 hour. Than maybe some flowmasters about 250-350 for duals.Good luck :flag:

Thanks For The Info ! I Got The Dual Flowmasters Put On Yesterday For $270 . Any Idea On The $$$ To Have The Pulley And Cold Air Installed In General ?

Also I Have Read Alot OF Mixed Reviews On Performance Chips. Do They Or Dont They Void Your Warranty. I Bought A 3/36,000 Extended Warranty When I Bought The Car 3 Weeks Ago. But Have Heard As Well That The Performance Chips Are A Waste When Starting Out. Any Truth To This ?

Any Input Out there On A Good SC In My Future ?

WELCOME TO THE FORMS!!!!!!!

A chip for our cars isn’t needed until you do a mod that warrants the need for a chip. Mods such as gear swaps, change tire/rim size, cam intake heads change, supercharger/turbo...ect. There's no gain if you get a chip now. They don't add much horsepower on their own and you would have to get it reprogrammed each time you make one of the above changes to your car. Chip will be one of the last things you do to your car.

The underdrive pulley it's self will cost you between 150 and 200 depending on where you can get it. Check out http://www.aspracing.com/ This company makes most pulleys for the sites you see selling them online. There's some useful info on them on that site. They explain how they work in simple terms and don't confuse you with the tech junk. Since you have a 2000 mustang you will need to check your stock pulley to see which style is on the car. That year was a crossover year and they put two different styles on the 2000's. This site explains how to tell which one is on your car http://www.miracerros.com/mustang/pulley.htm It's a fairly simple install if you have a torque wrench and patience.

For a cold air intake I would suggest you get on ebay and do a search. You will find hundreds of them for like 50 bucks. Just make sure it comes with a filter, two chrome hoses, one rubber O ring and some hose clamps. Install is fairly straight forward and should take the novice two hours max. Pretty easy to install. You can look around at more expensive intakes but they all do the same thing. So I can't justify paying a lot of money for a cold air intake.

To answer your warranty question. The best answer I can give is all warranty work is decided by the individual Ford dealerships. Some dealers encourage you to mod your mustang and get the most performance you can from your car. Others will make up stupid excuses so they don't have to do warranty work on your car. In the end it's all up to the dealer. Technically the only way they can void your warranty is if the modification that you did is the cause of your vehicle failure.

Thanks For The Welcome And All The Info Zoopa !

So I Need To Focus on Pulleys...Intake...Cam...Gears...Heads....For Now.

I Ordered A Cold Air Intake Already...Looking Into ASP For The Pulleys. I Read In Another Thread About A Ford 8" Rear-End And 3.73 Gears And Lock Out "New" For $800, Is This For Real ? And Is It Really Needed ? Guess I Should Get Some Specs On My New Ride So I Know What I Got Inside Now.

These Peeps Gonna Be A Great Help I Can See Already !

P.S. - There Will Be Many New Questions As We Go Along On Building This Pony Into A Stallion ! Specially When It Comes Supercharger Time ! Kinda H8 To Wait Long Though To Do That Project. Wont Do Me Any Good In The Winter I Am Thinking ! And Will Eat At Me All Winter If I Dont Do It Before ! But No Need To Rush I Just Bought The Ride Anyway.

PeAcE OuT AnD KeePin' It ReaL HeRe !

start out with exhasut, if you want a gt rear bumper get it also, its pretty cheap doesnt add much hp/tq but no bolt on really does, it helps the look and gives you a little more sound so its the best place to start.

after exhaust get an asp ud pulley and a cai from whom ever you want. after that if you have an automatic consider getting a shift kit (MANUAL VALVE BODY not an electronic POS)

wheels and tires should be one of the first apperance mods you do they totaly change the way the car looks and are pretty cheap, www.gefracing.com has a nice selection.

Thanks For The Tips Spector !

For Now I Am Going To Hold Off On Appearances And Worry About Whats Under The Hood. I Will Worry About The Appearances After I Get Done With All Of The Mechanic Work. Dont Wanna Mess Up Anything With Careless Tool Handling Or In And Out Of Machine Shops.

Yea I Got The True Duals Added Monday With Flowmasters. Cold Air Intake Should Be Here By Friday, And Am Picking Up The UD Pulley After Work Today. Hopefully Both Will Be Installed And Going Saturday.

The Supercharger Is Still A Few Months Away Or Maybe Not Till Next Spring. Anyone Have Any Suggestions On The "brand" Of SC I Should Look Into. I Have Seen Mnay Different Brands And Was Looking For Input On What You All Might Think As Far As the Best Might Be to Purchase.

Have A Great Day StAnGeRs !

procharger and vortech are the only 2 brands to consider and procharger is better in my opinion, It comes with a nice intercooler :) i would build the motor first so you have a bullit proof bottom end and if you build the motor right you can make the car nearly if not as fast as the procharger can, then imagine taking off another 1-2 seconds on how fast it is with a blower. building a motor will probably cost about the same as the blower

A Quick Note ! Do I Need All The Extra Pulleys For Now Or Just Start With The UD Pulley ? I Picked It Up Last Night On The Way Home.

Thanks Zoopa, Yea There Were 2 Different Pulley Styles For My 2000. Good To Know Before I Went In And Looked Like A Dumb Azz. Thanks For The Clue !

.... before you do anything, get rid of pcv hoses and replace with valve filters.... both positive and negative ventilation hoses on valve covers. but do not remove pcv filter, just clamp over it.

after about 70,000 miles you will starting to hear engine knocking or pinging due to oil problems on rear spark plugs. You need to fix these problems first.

99 and 00 cars have valve cover problems which will severely cost you to fix later on unless you can prevent now.

Having a 2000 stang I would stick to just the crank pulley. There's no need to go crazy on all your other accesories if you plan to get a supercharger down the road. Once you do upgrade to your supercharger you'll have to sell your underdrive pulley and put the stock pulley back on. A UD pulley would slow down your supercharger and that's not what you want to happen. So You should have no problem selling the pulley on the forms, It's a fairly simple and sought after modification.

As for the PCV delete. I'm still thinking of doing this my self. There's basicly two methods. The one i'm leaning twards involves putting a fuel filter inline on the PCV hose on the drivers side valve cover. The other method was mentioned above and from what i've heard you can smell oil burnning when your not moving or when you run your airconditioner inside the car. Not exactly what I want from my daily driver. Read around you'll see a lot about this on the forms.

... I tried fuel filter, and it didn't work. I also tried catch can and it didn't work either. It won't be as much oil going into the intake but still, you can see quite a bit of oil ...

You don't get smell if you keep the PCV valve. Because it adjust itself to open and close depends on pressure. If you remove completely (like most people do) then you will get a oil smell.
