well i was talking to a guy i work with today while we stood by my hurt stang and he asked if my car had a 2.3 turbo so of course i frowned and said no. so he told me that he has 2 88 turbo coupe t birds one is an r title with a bad trans body is decent on it, the other has a nice body but a spun cam bearing and a good trans from what i understand. he is thinking of selling one or both or parting them out. heres my question will the rear in one of those hold up to a 5.o with some minor mods? and what would be a good price for one or both of the cars. generally what are these things selling for?

yes black pony is right and silver pony doesnt know what he is talking about. They will hold up Just fine. 83-86 turbo coupes all came with a 3:45s 7.5 rear I wouldnt recomend those. But in 87-88 they came with an 8.8 the five speed turbo coupes gearing was 3:55s in the autos it was 3:73s. But yes it will hold up fine to your 5.0 And it is a lil wider like an inch or so It will annoy you very much too lol

I agree with except for that. I ran a 7.5 rear with both my 351w and 2.3T cars and never really had a problem. I eventually broke the 7.5 with the 351w but it took a while and received quite a beating.

Only reason I'm changing the 7.5 out of the turbo car is due to gear selection.

Yea Ive only had one problem with a 7.5 because it was a bad rear to start with other then that i really never had to use them Ive always had an 8.8 lying around. It definatly is a good rear Just not in the way higher hp range 400+ and its lighter then the 8.8

Also what gears are you going with? I have 3.55s in my car and they are much better then the 4 .10s Ive tried. the 4.10s didnt let me hold boost and first gear was like nothing and the rest were too quick. Im going to try and old 7.5 3.45s rear and see if i can get even more out of first.

There is a Twin Turbo 91 Mustang 5.0 running the stock 8.8 rear with 650 RWHP!! He broke 3 T-5's so he built a C-4 and the rear is still holding up. I have rode in that car a few times down the 1/4 (with camcorder). It's cool to see a 140 speedometer buried..

how much of a problem will the rear be for tire clearence issuse i will probably be running 225 60 15 or 235s not sure yet, also will my backing plates fit the rear and how about mounting points for my controll arms same locations? both cars are 5 speeds so they should have 3.55 gears and posi right?

 so the car runs into the 9's??

Last year it was running very low 10's I don't know if he broke the 9's yet. When I rode in it it was at the Friday Night Street Racing Event and they do not have any times or anything it is just straight up. Usually some 16year old throwing there arms up. I can't get the footage to my computer right now but I was in a helmet and a harness filming from the passenger's seat, when that thing launched it throws you back so hard the camcorder bounced off my faceshield. It was pretty damn funny. That car is scary fast, I have footage of 2-3 runs inside and 5-6 runs from outside. I got to stand and film it one night from where the light tree would be (that was awesome), nearly gets the front wheels off the ground..
