Ok, I know theres been threads on this over the yeard but I need to know a few specific things.

1. I need to use the 289 oil pan and timing cover right?.
2. What balancer and flywheel (c-4 trans)
3. What do I do about the distributor (which one)
4. What water pump?
5. What am I missing?

This will be a carbed motor and I would like to retain the wide late model belt.

Thanks

1. yep
2. 50oz for 5.0 motors
3. need one with a steel gear for the roller cam in the 5.0
4. If keeping the serpentine belt you need reverse rotation
5. Lots of beer and band aids :D
5. a.) I don't think the 5.0 will have the eccentric for a mechanical fuel pump

same swap but 67 and 88

Man i am doing the same exact thing to my stang except mine is a 67 stang 289 and c4 and a 88 gt 5.0. well dont make the same mistake i did... make sure you have a 50oz fly wheel.. and also for some reason the fly wheel out of the 88 will not fit my torque converter so i am havent a few problems... bought like 4 flywheels so far.. but finaly ive just decided to put in the 88's c4 auto into the 67 as well as the motor.. btw is also carbed. every one here on this board has been very helpful in the info they have given me. but if you need any help just let me know and ill help as much as i can . since im doing the same thing we might be able to help each other out.

Thanks guys.

The block I got wasnt an HO. Its machined for roller lifters but didnt come with them. I also had the 280H cam so I dont need the steel gear right?

1. Where can I find the reverse rotation pump and for how much?

2. Is it hard to find a different lower hose? Which one? (I have no AC or power steering)

3. The C-4 is a later (70+) model, so will I have troubles with the stock 5.0 flywheel?

Thanks again!

hey great man thanks... for the help.. hmm do you know if they have a return policy just incase it for some reason wont work for me? reason im asking is becasue ive bought like 3 flywheels and well 2 of the 3 haveno return and im out about 200 bucks on those 2

Guys, I am doing almost the exact same thing and pulling my hair out. I have a ford flexplate E302 50oz. When I bolt it to the block the weight on the plate only has about 1/32" before it hits the block. What is up with that.

Also when I am using the FM18 style torque in the C4, is this right?

When I tighten up the bellhousing, I can no longer turn the crank by hand.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, Britt, make sure you get the right motor mounts kits.

Sounds like you're missing the plate that fits between the block and bellhousing. If you are then you're gonna have other problems too, like the starter not engaging the flexplate properly. Also , you might have jambed the torque converter into the front pump incorrectly. Better pull it all apart to see if you damaged the front pump gears. They crack very easily.

1. If you're using the 280H, then you don't need a steel geared distributor. The points distributor will work fine ( after replacing the points with a Pertronix unit :D ) 2. you don't need a different lower hose, if your radiator has a driver side outlet. 3. The stock 5.0 flexplate will be a 164 tooth, it will work only if the bellhousing on the C-4 is also for a 164 tooth flexplate. Otheriwise you will need a 157 tooth -50oz/in flexplate for a C-4.

You can get a reverse rotation water pump at any auto parts store. Just ask for one for an 86-93 Mustang 5.0. The aftermarket companies make high volume ones also, just pick up a Jegs or Summit.
I second that , except there possibly was also a high volume water pump from Ford. Ford made many stock water pumps in both std and high volume. The high volume ones were for heavy or extreme duty applications, such as police, taxi and pickup trucks. :nice:
