Fox set up. How much would it help. Plus head questions? Quick

I have been thinking of going to the fox body set up. I have a 94-95 intake manifold and I have thought about going to the fox body upper. How much would this help me in the long run. I know I can get get a Accufab. I am thinking about buying a cheap set of GT-40 heads. Which ones are the best the P, X or Y. I will end up porting them. And will the P work will our headers?

X's would be ideal, but they come at a much higher price because they are aluminum. I'm assuming you want to stay on the cheap side here so I'm comparing just the GT40P heads and regular GT40 irons. With the stock cam, the regular GT40's will be a much better choice, IMO. With the intake to exhaust airflow ratios, and the profile of our camshafts, you are much better suited with a regular GT40.

Changing to a Fox body upper manifold will do nothing. The only reason horsepower ratings were different between our cars and Fox cars was because the SAE changed the way they calculate the unknowns.

IMO, switching to a Fox TB setup yields nothing. Ass dynos say they do. I can make my ass dyno think so too, but I refuse. :D

Well one thing is true, and that is a lot more foxes are over the 300rwhp mark than 94-95. What explains that?

Im not saying your are wrong, cause im in the middle. But i was just researching about it and that point was brought up with no answer.

Why did they give us an elbow anyway?

Can you tell me what manifold this is? I was only thinking of swapping to it because I could get an Accufab TB and then just get a big PVC pipe and run a big air filter inside the engine compartment. Would I make any more power doing that?

no idea. I was going to buy this off ebay. Then I could have a spare one to clean up maybe polish it and then get the throttle body and heads and then just swap it and then I could sell my other parts on ebay.

it's a "A GT40 Cobra upper intake manifold equipped with EGR off a 1998 Ford Explorer 5.0 engine. This is in Very good used condition. Please check with a dealer for fitment." I need to know if it is worth it. It closes in three hours. Also regarding the heads. If I will head I will also get a cam. I am in college so money is tight. I know some guys that can port them. Which head would be the cheapest to buy then port. Will the GT-40P work with our headers.

The Fox EEC is much forgiving when its comes to modifications. Especially in the case of a camshaft. There is probably a 8-12HP advantage in the Fox EEC vs. our cars. Mainly the reason they get the 300 rwhp mark more than us. I know what your thinking, why not swap over a fox EEC? Well its very costly.

Yeah I looked into that like 6 months ago. It cost like 500 or something like that.

True indeed. I was favoring the swap side but now im back in the middle. What about cost? Starting from stock, wouldnt swapping be cheaper if you got the fox parts for fairly cheap? Im thinkin it is since you dont have to buy that stupid elbow and the fox tb's are cheaper also.

I dont see any loss in doing the swap. Do you think the tb would get into the way of the hood on a 351? I cant see how it would.

So, a tweecer would even the playing field up right? Whats all involved in changing the computer to make it run better with bigger cams? Idle speed? Im thinking something with the vacuum or something. Im just looking for a basic explanation, i will be searching the tweecer forums when i get close to running the 351.

A Tweecer will help if you know what your doing. So does a custom burned chip ( with dyno tune) or PMS unit. The Fox PIH kit from Pro-M is $600. Comes with EEC, sensors, wiring harness and fan controller. You can't just take a fox EEC and plug it into our cars. If that were the case everyone on here would have one already. Your right the EEC get a little nuts with a camshaft change due to lobe center of the cam. Low lobe numbers cause the computer to hunt for a vacuum leak. Most of know we need a computer friendly cam like the Steeda #19, Crower 15511, Crane 2031 and a few others. A custom cam is the most popular.

I have done the swap...I ran the above Explorer for a few months ,and then swapped over to the 93 Cobra this Winter....I have dyno numbers from before this swap....Come Saturday, I'll see what the dif was HP wise...Before i was running a stock upper with a Tmoss lower...This Fox swap will prove the numbers...

I personally did it for the room and I like the look better..I happen to like tweaking chit around... :D

i ran a Tmoss ported lower and stock upper....then to the Ex with and elbow...ran it 2 months...swapped to a Fox TB set-up...they swapped over to the 93 Cobra over the Winter....

Explorer with elbow....me no liked....had to run the fuel lines over my CAI because of tall VCs...

Heres what im running this week.... :D 93 Cobra Fox set-up..

heading to re-dyno this setup this weekend....feels like it picked up some power for sure...4000 and up pulls like crazy....we'll see....I was at 257RWHP and 325RWTQ last year with the TMoss ported stock lower set-up...i added this Cobra, some 1.6 Scorpions, and MSD Pro-Billet dizzy, and the Fox set-up...the numbers have surely changed....

Edit...I have stg2 Thumper E7s and a Steeda 19 cam...I would think your GT40 set-up would ballpark around where I am....I would like to think the Cobra/Fox set-up picked up 20 ponies??? we shall see....Either way the cars a hoot to drive and listen to... :D
