venom...need traction

I've got my venom kit coming soon which I am going to shoot a 125 shot. I put the mm subframe bushings in which helped a little bit and I am ordering wider rims for bigger tires....what have you irs guys been doing to stop wheel hop? I'll be dipping into the elevans and hope these halfshafts hold for a bit. Any other 99's running nos?

With all the torque you will get from the nitrous....and your plans to hit 11's....your 1/2 shafts will not last. You will probably snap one on your first launch. Good luck!!

My two friends that had nitrous on their 99 and 01 Cobra both went to a solid axle. It's the only way to go.....jump up to a 31 spline axle and auburn diff at that time as well. Try to find a GT that wants to swap.

I gave up on the IRS long ago after buying just about every aftermarket part on the market for it.

03's seem to be doing just fine with the IRS at the track. The key is wheel hop. The half shafts don't just snap under the sheer torque of the engine...although at failure this might seem to be the case. They are cycled and actually fail long before they break. The wheel hop problem is bascially harmoic vibration that causes forces many times larger than any axle will every see at the track. These instantaneous forces cause stress cracks and when that happens it's only a matter of time till the half shaft breaks. Fix the wheel hop and get some decent half shafts and you will do fine.
Although I still wouldn't be doing 6k rpm dumps at the line with nitrous if I were you. Stop the hop and they can be very reliable.

Stop the hop at it may prolong the life, but I wouldn't say it would be reliable.
The 99's are easily the weakest shafts. Get a high horsepower car with our IRS, and even with no hop you will break a 1/2 shaft. People have even broken the aftermarket shafts on our cars when running 330RWHP and slicks.

The 03's are doing pretty good because not only are they 31 spline, but they also have a thicker 1/2 shaft....and they changed a lot of the geometry related to the pinion and such. (at least that's what the 03 guys were saying back when I was still interested in improving my IRS.)

I'm not saying you can't make an IRS hold to the abuse....but it gets expensive.

True...but the cost of putting in a biult solid axle vs. an 03 IRS is about the same I believe. So if you are spending the money, might as well go with the solid if you want to drag race.

I held out for a long time because I liked the IRS so much....now that I have the solid I don't know why I waited one day.

its true. On the street, you will barely notice the ride difference. But if you are an AutoX'er, then keep the IRS (simple as that). Most of us are average joe's that spend 99% of the time on the street. I've never taken a sharpe corner at 60mph. That's the only real time an IRS will show its mettle...

see I am fuggin crazy....I drive like a bat out of hell. I'll take my car to the limit in every turn I see.....plus I am ready to try to take my car crossing pretty soon once I get my brakes upgraded. I race on the street but aspire to try to autox. That's why I am having such a tough time getting rid of it. The problem is I have to run nos just to survive on the street these days....a couple of years ago that wasn't the case.
