Car maybe totaled, what to replace it with?

I say go with 300ZX or 350ZX, 92+RX-7(best track car IMO),
MR-2 is great car, but if you want it to be track worthy, you might want to get 5S-FE,
not the 3S-GTE. I've read somewhere that 5S-FE has far flatter torque that just pull you from corner, unlike3S-GTE which has bit peaky torque.

But if its up to me, I'll get mach1 or 99+Cobra and get it over with

why on earth would you want to sway a SR20 into a 350Z? Yes the SR is a potent motor but the VQ isnt so bad itself and its a 6 cylinder vs 4 cylinder. Definatly not worth the money because you get less after youre done. Just take the $$ and blow the VQ and be done with it.

SR25DET in to 240SX makes far more sense then SR20 in to 350Z
And I think it'll be much easier, and with small mod, SR20DET can push near 350hp~400hp(with stock internal   )

Make Drift car!!!!!!!!

I do like the new Legacy GT, and I LOVE the G35 coupe (I've driven several G35's, 2 and 4 drs), but neither of those are not track-oriented enough for me to consider as a replacement for my Mustang. Those ARE on my short list to replace the Fiance's Saab next year.

I'm going to have to agree with the majority here that an engine swap in a new 350Z would be a stupid idea.

I DO like the idea of an older MR2 (mainly because it is mid-engined) but if I get an older car like that I'll probably choose a miata over an MR2 just because of the popularity of Spec Miata.

Right now two options are looking like winners:
Slightly used S2000 with a 75 shot of nitrous.
Older miata with the intention of eventually running SM.

Or I could drop it into my business in the hopes that I'll see returns in a couple years to be able to afford what I really want (C6 vette or Lotus Elise). The only downside is that I'll have to go a couple years without a toy car, and I'll be obsessed the whole time with trying to get a new one.

The viper idea is interesting, I hadn't thought of that.

Because when racing failures happen and the sr20 is a much cheaper engine to replace than a VQ. Parts are more plentiful and are cheaper. SR is a great motor and very fun to drive ( I had one in my 89 240sx).

if your wiling to wait, then older MR2 could be idea you might want to meditate on.
You can pick up None-turbo MR2(w/o T-Top) with somewaht of miles on it, but then you could build it up.
say you could buy MR2 for around $2000~$3000, then buy JDM 3S-GE, or 3S-GTE(mostlikely rear clip. *** 3S-GE has 200hp, and 3S-GTE has 245hp) for about another $2000~$3000. All JDM turbo And most none-turbo came with LSD, so thats plus.
Then spend few month transfering everything over, throw few bolt ons, you get yourself a seriously capable track car for give it a take around $10000. there are unlimited sourse of parts company, and with few tweeks, I say you can easily build MR2 that wrinkle kid pad at >1.0g.

I just don't like the idea of replacing an old-ish car that needs some work (my 98) with an oldER car that needs MORE work that is LESS fast and not "nice" (read: older NSX or Viper). I might consider it if there was a spec MR2 class that was cheap and competitive like the miata. I put my heart and soul into this car, only to have it literally robbed from me in no more than a couple minutes. I don't want another money pit. I want a car I can enjoy off the showroom floor.

Personally I wouldn't get the C5 or the M3, and my personal tastes dictate other than the Evo, it's too tall and boxy for me. The C5 and the M3, while being great corner carvers in addition to having some nice power right out of the box, are a little to portly for me to consider them for a fun to drive weekend car. Something very light with decent power will be more fun IMO than a 3500lb 500hp monster. That being said, if you just want to be competitive in competition, the C5 will probably get you into the fray with a fighting chance. FYI, the C4 corvette with the LT1/LT4 is a great handling car that can make power too.

True c4 with the lt4 can be had worth the money and they are great cars. With the money you save you could get a supercharger too. :D

A car that can handle? Used S2000 and add a comptech supercharger down the line. I know u don't want to mod it much, but I think it'll give you that extra kick in the pants, though it still won't be a drag king, it'll be seriously fun to drive.
