While I'm driving, the tempature gauge goes way over hot, then the coolant light turns on and it drops back to normal. This has been going on for a couple of days. Yesterday I got out and antifreeze was bursting out the cap. I went and bought a new thermostat and new coolant. I drained out the radiator, but where is the thermostat located? I can't find it (If you haven't noticed, I'm no mechanic).

Where can I go to see how to replace the thermostat preferably with pictures  , and does anyone else have any other ideas on what is wrong? The radiator shop will rod it out for $300, but I'd rather try the thermostat first.

I'm not aware if it went in for the cooling recall back in the day. I have owned the car for a little over three years and it has almost 60,000 miles on it.

Thanks,
Dane

The cooling fix didn't always fix the problem. A better radiator like a Fluidyne might be the solution. You can find the thermostat in the silver housing at the bottom of the rubber coolant hose. Its on the drivers side a little ways in front of the oil filter. Check the cheapy thermostat first, but I'd go with a nice aftermarket radiator before paying $300 to service the crappy OEM one.

Thanks for your help

I switched out the thermostat and I put in new coolant. Everything seems to be back in normal condition. I will watch the coolant level for the next couple of days to see if it changes.

Thanks for the help Aaron.
