We had a customer come in today with a mint Bullitt that was stock except for a Paxton 1000 kit. It had the Paxton supplied tune and he wanted to make sure it was safe.
The tune was so horrible the car made hardly anymore horsepower than stock. A/F at 5,000 RPM was 9.5! And the timing was so conservative it laughable. The guy was obviously upset and decided to let us tune it. He had to leave quickly so we only got to do 2 pulls. Timing is 2 degress on the conservative side of where we usually START. MAF pegged at the very top of the pull.
The numbers on the paxton tune were 249rwhp and 295 rwtq
Our super conservative tune got him 337rwhp / 337 rwtq
Look at how much power it picked up at 5,500 RPM!
The moral of the story is that a dyno tune is really the best way to go for a supercharged car. If not a dyno tune then a mail order tune from an experienced tuner.
