Are you running a Paxton supplied tune? Maybe you shouldn't...

We had a customer come in today with a mint Bullitt that was stock except for a Paxton 1000 kit. It had the Paxton supplied tune and he wanted to make sure it was safe.

The tune was so horrible the car made hardly anymore horsepower than stock. A/F at 5,000 RPM was 9.5! And the timing was so conservative it laughable. The guy was obviously upset and decided to let us tune it. He had to leave quickly so we only got to do 2 pulls. Timing is 2 degress on the conservative side of where we usually START. MAF pegged at the very top of the pull.

The numbers on the paxton tune were 249rwhp and 295 rwtq

Our super conservative tune got him 337rwhp / 337 rwtq

Look at how much power it picked up at 5,500 RPM!

The moral of the story is that a dyno tune is really the best way to go for a supercharged car. If not a dyno tune then a mail order tune from an experienced tuner.

kinda reminds me of someone i know. oh wait, it's me. :) i used the stock Vortech tune for a long time but i gaurantee it was making more power than that, but still very conservative. i'll be going to the dyno in the next month to correct the situation.

How much power do you think you could get out of that kit with a relatively mild set of mods? (like what's in my sig)

Well that car could see alot more but the guy wanted it extremely safe so I left it there. With a different pulley and a good MAF that kit should see 400rwhp or so.

I'd personally skip the 1000 and get the 2000 to leave room to grow.

249rwhp with a paxton lol

nice job in fixing it....is he going to come back and have you finish it or is the maf done and needs to be changed?

what injectors and maf was he running? 30 and 80mm lmaf?

Not sure. The guy who brought the car down is not the owner. He's the guy who did the install. My guess is the owner will be happy the way it is. The MAF was stock. 38lb injectors and focus pump.

The car was done on a dynojet, and the car was seeing roughly 6-7psi. Also when we say stock I mean stock stock. It has a stock h-pipe, stock cat back the hole nine LOL. The only thing is the blower and injectors every thing else is as delivered from Ford.

I recommend XMP in Aliso Viejo (South Orange County).

They installed the 4.1 gears on my GT and the ported and polished heads and manifolds on my previous V-6. All work was very high quality.
