Not busting your balls, but you don't lash hydraulic lifters. You set "preload" on them. :D

What brand roller rockers are you using and what type are they? Adjustable or non-adjustable?

Joe

they are stud mount rockers...and yes they are adjustable...sorry for using the wrong words...i meant what if you have to much preload...what are some symptoms...the exhaust tone is louder than usual and i have lost power...i think i might need plugs...if you try to goose the car 2 or 3 times..you know hopp it...it will pop out of the exhaust...so i am assuming its either a leak or maybe TPS??? i'm not sure...thats why i'm asking you guys that KNOW this stuff...hehe the pros to the mustang bs...

thanks

Tighten the nut on the rocker down just until you can't spin the pushrod with your fingers anymore. This is zero lash. Once you find zero lash, tighten the nut down another 1/2 turn. That should set up proper preload.

Remember to set the valves when they are completely closed.

i did do it like that but i did it before the car had been primed...so i wonder if i need to do it again now that they have been pumped up...:( i think i f***ed up...i hope i didn't ruin my cam..let me know

I can't tell you whether you ruined your cam or not. I wouldn't think so. Prime the motor, set the valves, and see if it still does it.

Are you sure the distributor is set properly in the cam gear (not a tooth off)? Do you have the wires in their correct locations on the distributor? What's the fuel pressure set at?

Joe

how would the distributor being set in there affect that??? i just pulled the #1 plug and turned the car to top dead...then i put the #1 plug where the rotor was at...then i pulled the spout and set the timing...unless i'm wrong...i didn't think that would affect anything...although that might be why my timing marks seem a little high???

Messed up timing could do everything wrong.

I'm just trying to think logically here. Obviously it's nothing in the top of the motor because it runs. It's got to be fuel and/or spark related. The first thing that comes to mind is the dizzy being either a tooth off or 180* out.

Hopefully some others will chime in...

Joe

i don't think its off 180 cause it runs to good for that...but the timing has to be off...i just don't understand how it can take 20 degrees base timing and not ping???...that doesn't seem right..my pistons are dished though for high lift and boost...so it might be that too???
