Ok, within the last couple of weeks I have learned alot about what it's going to take to swap my Mustang to EFI. I made up a list and still have a few things missing and don't know where to find them.

I need a cable-throttle setup that will connect to the throttle body. Where can I get a stock gas pedal for a my '65 that is already set-up to use a cable?

I also think I know where I can find a clutch assembly out of a '66 Mustang, but don't know for sure if it still has it. So, where can I find the clutch pedal/brake pedal/bracket assembly at? I couldn't find it on Mustangs Unlimited.

Last, I am thinking about using a fuel cell since they are safer than the stock Mustang gas tank. Besides, I would have to replace my tank anyway. So, I need to find some kind of electric fuel pump with high pressure and an electric safety shut-off switch for it that I can use with the fuel cell.
Oh, also need to know what kind of fuel lines I use for the EFI. All I know is I read "high-pressure" fuel lines.

As of right now, I think this is all I have left to find. So I will appreciate any help you can give me very much. Thanks!

I think for fuel line, you cant beat the stainless steel hard line ($30)

A fuel cell is kind of pricey, isnt it? You can get a new correct fit gas tank for under $100 shipped (mustangsunlimited on ebay)

As for a fuel pump, thats going to depend on your setup....and you could just run a toggle switch for it. Remember, you will need a return line and a regulator.

The only problem with running an inline pump in a classic gas tank is that the pickup tube in the tank will not be in a baffle and once you get to about 1/4 tank and less you can wash the fuel off the pickup during cornering....in a carb this is not a problem because a fuel is stored in the bowls but in EFI the car simply dies. A baffle in the tank is mandatory or you can use what is called a header tank. Hakan has some info on a header tank on this page:

http://www.vikingmustang.com/EFI_02.asp

and I made an in tank pump/baffle for my project here:

My setup got rather complicated but I set quite a few criteria when I began this project and I do not compromise on my cars.

For the gas pedal, look for 87-93 Mustangs with a 5.0, and probably Lincolns as well. I know the Mustang throttle cable is a good length, the Lincoln one might be a bit longer. Does the new fuel tank have an EFI return port? If not you'll have to add one.

Ronstang,

I must commend you on what looks like a well thought out and well built efi pump solution. I have downloaded all your pictures so I can look at them closer when I get home. Could you elaborate a little about the parts you used, built, how and why? Drop me an email if you'd like ersingle @ aol . com (just remove the spaces)

Eric

Ok, I'm kinda confused about this header tank and fuel-return line stuff. Can someone please give me a summary of what all needs done to the fuel delivery system from the tank to the fuel rails. I would really appreciate it.

Anyone know where I can BUY a header tank? Depending on how much they cost, I may just build one myself. But it would have to be steel or something because I have no access to a TIG welder to make one out of aluminum. Thanks.

A carbed car has one fuel line from the tank to the carb. An EFI setup also has a return line, so any fuel pressure not needed is sent back to the tank. You can either add your own port to the sending unit, or purchase the one from Mustangs Plus. You'll have to run a second fuel line under the car from the fuel rails to the tank.

Header tank

Glen's 1965 5.0, so you use an "in-tank" fuel pump to put in the header tank, correct?

Oh, will I have to buy the special "EFI sending unit" from here?

I don't see what would be so different about a sending unit for an EFI engine.

You can modify the one you have by drilling a small hole in the sending unit and then enlarge the hole with a punch to make the hole just large enough to push some fuel line through it. I then soldered it in. If you have a drain plug on your tank you can use this as the return point. Either way.

As PH Cruiser stated you need a return line to the tank. My high pressure pump is in the small header tank. The Readers Digest version is: Low pressure pump keeps header tank full, high pressure pump sends fuel to engine, left over fuel returns to header tank, header tank has return line to tank. The principle is the same with the header tank deleted.

One of the links at the bottom of my Header Tank page has some for sale.

Thanks guys, I'm starting to understand.

Ok, here is my list, tell me if anything is missing.

- Engine & Tranny
- Shifter and E-brake also
- Clutch/Brake pedal assembly
- Tranny crossmember and e-brake mount
- Clutch Cable
- New gas tank
- Fuel pump
- Fuel lines
- Fuel filter
- New throttle or fabed throttle to work with cable
- 02 sensor bungs welded to exhaust
- Eliminator brackets for the A/C and P/S
- Shock tower braces to clear intake manifold
- Lower radiator hose so radiator works with reverse flow pump
- Speedo cable for T-5 tranny
- Alternator wiring harness
- EFI Wiring harness
- Switching timing chain cover to early-model type for easy access to dipstick
- Some radiator mods to make it work with water pump

Anything I don't have that I need besides the mods I need to do for the fuel system.

The E-brake mods aren't required for the swap
EEC (EFI computer) mounting and wiring through firewall
Add inertia switch to fuel pump wiring
Possibly need to relocate battery depending on your air filter setup
Swap oil pans and oil pump
New tranny yolk and shorten driveshaft

PCH Cruiser, I know the E-brake mods aren't required, but I want to use the late model E-brake on the center console.

Yes, I need to find a mount for the EEC.

I plan on mounting the battery in the trunk.

I have a 7 or 8 quart front sump Milidon oil pan, so I need to find the pickup for that. Why is a new pump needed? Will the latemodel pump not work with a front sump pick-up tube?
