I'm anxious to get this thing to the track...but the smell of the clutch when I get on it (from 3500+rpm) the clutch has a burning smell to it...it isn't bad...but you can smell it and it goes away right after I let off?...

Do you think this is a risk to race it at the track?...I have radial tires that grab good but it won't make the clutch work harder (as compared to drag radials)...what could happen...would I be fine...a bunch of my friends are wanting to see what it will do and some am I...it could be a while before I get a new clutch...what do ya'll think?

Stock style NAPA clutch almost exactly a year old...never caused problems till I got the new power...I'm just wondering if the clutch is going to blow up, shatter etc...or what kind of damage could occur...again the smell isn't strong but I can smell it but goes away almost immediatly once I let off from a higher rpm pull...

If I were you, i'd check the back of my manifold to make sure everything sealed up properly. You may be getting a little oil or anti-freeze leaking down the back of your block onto the flywheel? Did you use the original corked end gaskets when you installed the intake, or a bead of RVT silicone?

Bead of silicone...

But how would the smell of oil go away that quickly...right after I let off of it...

Dunno....oil should burn off fairy quickly though, but even still. Is it possible that you've got a bit of an exhaust leak and that's what you were smelling? The header on my pass side was leaking at the flange (Mac ) and as soon as I'd let off, it was gone, just like that?

Did you run your hand across the back of the intake where it meets the block, just to rule it out?

Well I looked at the back of the intake the other day...and there was nothing...but now I didn't notice some oil (appearing to come out of the valve cover/vc gasket meeting place...probably tightened them to much becasue I cracked one of the VCs when tightening them...harline crack on opposite side)...down the side of the head...very small...but I doubt that would cause that smell...as far as I know I don't have a exhaust leak...and the clutch isn't slipping...that i can tell...

I wish there were some ways to pinpoint what it could be...
