Putting 4.10's in, thinking of new positrac unit?

Okay, heres my dilemma. I am just about ready to put my 4.10 gears in, but I was wondering if I hould go ahead and upgrade my posiunit(traclock, w/e) while im at it. I was looking at the Auburn High Performance Series at Holcomb Motorsports for $280. The part number is AUB542024 . Do you feel this will be a better unit than the stock one? If not, could you point me in th right direction? What is your opinion?

The stock 28 spline carrier is a decent piece and can handle A LOT MORE Thrashing than most people think, but nows a good time to upgrade since it's going to torn apart anyway.

I went with a 31 spline FRPP Trac-Loc and Moser axle shafts. The FRPP one is good unit. It's the same one used in F Series-Expedition/Navigator front axles and on the Explorer/Mountaineer and Ranger 4x4's. It will handle plenty of power. I'm not sure about the Auburn one's, but I'm willing to bet they are good. They've been around a long time.

Thanks for the quick reply man. Anyway, I was thinking of upgrading to 31 spline axles, but then I thought to my self that I am nott going to be making anyseriou hp or be thrashing on it too much. The posiunit will be upgraded as a "just in case" factor.

If that's the case, then I'd just leave the stock one in there. My buddy Dale has the stock 28 spline rear(with 3.73's) in his 01 GT with a Vortech and on M/T ET STREET tires. He leaves the line at 5,000RPM and the car run's consistent 12.20's (12.1's with cooler temps). He probabally has 125+passes down the 1/4 and No problems so far. (knock on wood:eek:) It's going to let go some time, but so far it's done a pretty damn good job in my eye's. Most people don't think the stock rear is that great, but it's a lot better than you think

The only reason I went with 31 splines was "JUST IN CASE".

I'm glad I did, 'cause if all goes well money wise this winter, A Vortech S/C will be under my hood next spring! :D

A LOT of US say, that we don't plan on doing many mod's, but once you start, it's hard to stop. It's kind of like getting a tattoo. Once you get one, you want another. I always thought I'd stay N/A, but after a ride in Dale's S/C'd 01 was all it took.
