I knew where this story was going when it started. :rlaugh: They PREY on mustangs, it's their calling! :D

Just traded this (alcohol injection) for another buick

Here's one of his other ones:

Plus his dad has one:

Sad part was I couldn't get anyone to race me. Most people around here know what a GN is capable of. The guys who tried went down like a $2 crack ho. Only loss was my Dad's next door neighbor. He has a Vette C5 Lingenfelter with a 383 and lots of goodies. BUT, my mid-80's GM 6 Cylinder gave him all he could handle. I had him off the start easily. He came back at 120MPH. Afterwards we compared price. My car had a total of $10,000 (car + mods). His car was $100,000 with everything. He wasn't a happy camper after crunching the numbers. Anyway it was a toilet which had to go.

My uncle Brad has one of the 547 GNXs, he's run to date a 10.96 in it on the stock block. You can beat that crap out of that 3.8 and it will love ever second of it. Gale Banks, who made the fastest pick up truck in the world on diesel power, had his hand in the turbo design.

You sure your uncle has a GNX or is it just a plain Grandnational...I personally wouldn't modify that much on a GNX...I'd keep it original...but if it was a Grand National nothing would hold me back when it comes to modding:nice:

A 87 Grand National will not beat any stock stang to date...they are mid 14 second cars that cross the line around 98mph...they make 355lbs of torque at 2000 rpm :D ...245hp...

You have to look at the Grand National in a different way...you can't look at it like some of the younger ones do at ricers looking for something flashy...which will make you think the Grand National is ugly...you have to go back in time a bit and know it is all business and a great sleeper :hail2:

Definately has the gnx. He is the original owner. He had it stock for 10 years then decided he got bored with it but refused to sell it. You take it on the highway and push the pedal all the way down and you just keep accelerating past 150. The stock speedo was for 85 mph too. You know any car that only comes in black from the factory has gotta be badass.

The only car thats faster that I've ever been in is a porsche 911 twin turbo, doing 175 on 495 at 2AM, all you hear is a small keening whine from the engine. But thats a whole different class of car. The guy wouldnt let me drive it though. :nonono:

Hell even the new supercharged regals are fast. I want my KB :nonono:

My mom has one of those supercharged regals, it was my dads, but he wanted a jeep instead because the buick wasn't rugged enough or something like that. Funny though, he enjoys driving my mustang.......the few times that I let him! :D

I was running down the highway today doing about 55 and a black buick pulls up beside me and revs the motor, so i was thinking "no problem, i'll beat him" so i nodded and we took off, he started pulling away hard, I mean hard. I was like "WTF?" then after we slowed down i looked at his car and it had a badge on the side that said "Intercooled" then I remember my dad saying something about a Buick Grand National made during the 80s that was real fast. It was embarrasing to say the least :nonono: , what kind of motor do those have?

What the he** have you been living under a rock all your life!!??? :rlaugh: JK. Those cars are sick. I saw one at the strip with twin turbos so big that he had to cut holes in the hood for them to stick out. Looked sick. And he was running 9's all night.

even i know about them and i'm a 17 year old girl. i did find it hard to believe a buick could be that fast though...until i rode in one

and i whole heartedly agree w/ 17y/ostanger...i think it's probably one of the ugliest cars out there but looks aren't everything when it comes to cars
They made a Buick that was faster then the GN,and the GNX,,it was in 1970,Buick GSX stage 1. It was a 455 that had 510 pounds of torque from the factory :nice: A real torque monster.

Correct me if I’m wrong guys….but I don’t recall the GNX being much faster than the regular Grand National. I realize that it’s the upscale version of the car and had a few power enhancements, but I recall most of the upgrades being concentrated on the suspension tuning and badgeing. I remember the actual production models being faster, but not much faster than the base GN. If memory recalls, most of the hype over the GNX was based on their collect ability, not so much with their performance.

Actually the GNX was rated at 276HP vs. the GN's 245HP. However GM just put a number on there ratings. Both cars made more HP then what was advertised. It was one of the reasons why the GN was cancelled. It was mightier then there precious Corvette.

I've seen first hand a 7500 mile GNX make 312 at the wheels. It was bone stock and still had the sticker in the window. The guy would tune it every year (a must with a turbo vehicle), bring it to 3 major shows then tuck it away.

That 455 isn't faster than the GNX...it traps like 101-102mph...because the lack of efficiency of those year model cars (muscle car era)...are usually slower even with more power or torque...but yet another nice collectible Buick :nice:

Yeah the GN itself isn't that fast...(mid 14's)...the GNX is the equivalent of a 02 (auto) ls1 (going by the mph)...lower 13's and high 12 with good tires...

GNX - Though it may not be fast stock...it has great potential and are rare and has a sleeper look which equals my dream car :hail2:

Normally I'd agree, but in this case, those old GSX's used to haul tail! They acutually used to trap in the 105-106mph range and run low-13's. Neither car's stock time is considered a showstoper by todays standards, but in the '80's, low-13's out of a stock american built car was very rare and in the late '60's, it was nearly unheard of!

I just love it because except for one other mustang owner, every brother in my fraternity is into imports. It just kills them that my favorite car with 17 year old technology that comfortably sits 5 will take a Nissan Skyline in the quarter mile.

Yep the Girls dad has a 70'Gsx stage 1 in the garage Yellow with black stripes 1 of 50 like optioned, 105-106mph at very low 13's on polyglass tires no less. The 455 has the most trq of any of the big block GM's even the chevell LS6 454.

a guy called his sister-in-law and offerd her 10k to talk him into selling it..he didnt.

the GS stage 1 is not a GSX, the GSX stage 1 (I think like 5 were stage II's that had some aftermarket stuff but I am not sure if they were ever offerd for sale?) my girls dad has is like the GSX pics not the GS pics, maybe a typo or there was a stage 1 in each line.
