Hi all, I'm a long time lurker with only a few posts but could use some info today.

2001 Stang.....I know this is the 4.6 forum and it's a V6 but it's a body question and there is a lot of traffic here.....

The forward guide for the driver's side window has come out of the track. Has this happened to anyone before?

The rear guide is easy to fix but the front looks to be a pain in the butt to work on.

I'd appreciate any words of wisdom or notes from experience.

yeah it happened to me a while back. I had to get an entire new window!! The tracks are glued on the window and mine came off. You can't really just glue it back on but you could try I guess

my drivers side window has come off of track a couple times now. (that a long with other things leads me to believe my car was built on a monday morning). When I got in there to work on it, there was a couple bents bars that needed some persuasion and some pegs that needed to go back into their guiders. Once you get in there, you'll see what needs to go where, it's pretty simple (doing it is the tought part). It helps to take the door speaker out to get rear access but it's still a pita. goodluck :nice:

Same thing happened to my passenger window. The guides that hold the window came loose then the front most guide and bar got caught under that support brace tube in the door. anyhow it made a crack and bent one of the arms and the guide was loose. I packed the inside of the guides with windshield urethane and that seemed to do the trick however I think I must have put something back together wrong because now in about an hour I'm gonna have to go outside and take the door apart again because it's broken again and jammed up pretty good. My advice is to take the whole thing (motor assembly, arms and guides) out first then work on it where your not having to contort yourself into a door shell. Just my .02.

UPDATE

Pulled everything out of the door. One free arm of the regulator assembly is bent all to hell. I was thinking of buying a whole new unit from FORD. I knew that on ethe 2000's the motor and regulator **** was separate but when I got to looking at my 2001's **** it was all one unit. Called Ford in Hutchinson KS and they want almost $200 for it. **** THAT! I'm gonna call around to some junk yards and see what I can find. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to replace the whole thing.

Ford charged me $60 for the window regulator and motor(they only sold them together since they were redesigned). Ford wanted $300-400 for the parts and labor I told them to f off and bought the $ 60 part from them and took it to a body shop who installed it for $40.
