Water temp install ?

Hello guys.
I want to install my autometer water temp gauge. I have a extra aluminum crossover that I have drilled and taped for the sensor. I then went to go replace the crossover. I was looking at lower intake manifold and it looks like I have to remove the whole lower intake. Is this true? I have done this in the past due to NITROUS BACKFIRE and I had to replace my plastic manifold, not hard but a pain. Do you guys now of anyway of removing this crossover without removing the whole intake? Because I will have to now drain the coolant way down. Also how much and what kind of antifreeze do you guys use? Is there something easier to do or a different place to install that is easier?

Thanks for the help in advanced

Yes, I used a coolant drain plug in the block and my gauge is dead on. It's down near the freeze plugs right behind the motor mount on the Driver's side. I'm sure someone has a pic they can show you if you can't find it.

I forget the size of the adaptor you have to use, I think it's the 3/8. You want to depressurize the coolant system first (open the fill cap) so that coolant doesn't blow all over when you start removing the plug from the bottom of the block :) Make sure you have it ready to screw in as coolant will be pouring out. You'll want to pull the plug out and put your thumb over it while you grab the sender. Oh yea, don't forget to use liquid teflon (don't use teflon tape.

I welded a bung onto the thermostat housing and tapped it for the sender. Just removed the top hose and caught the coolant in a small bucket, then removed the housing to get welded. I used teflon tape with no problems. Then refilled with the original coolant and done. Took about 1 hour including driving to the welder and back, with install. Works like a charm.
