well last ngiht i got my first speeding ticket. what sucks is i dont think i was speeding as bad as he says. so i would like some advice on how to fight it. the only way i think to fight it is with facts and some math. my speedo is off but im not exactly sure how off it is so i really need some help.

i was going 2k rpm exactly in 3rd gear. i have 3.08s in the rear with 215/60/15s back there to. if you need anything from my tranny you will have to tell me how to fegure it out cause i dont know. the speedo gear was the one from 2.73s.

also how long do they have to be PACEING you? theres gota be like a rule on that. cause i dont think he had enough time to come to a stop, look and go and catch up and actualy pace me. because i turned into my naborood.

i know some of you guys out there can fegure this out like cleaning the lent between your toes.

According to the corral calculator, you should have been doing about 38mph. Not sure about the other question. Radar works while the police vehicle is moving (it takes its speed into account and subtracts). If he was just eyeing it then it's his word against yours and good luck...

That calc is here for future reference http://www.corral.net/tech/gearcalc.html

In that gear, at that speed, with that size tire and 3.08's you were going about 36.5 mph give or take a little for tire squish.

FYI, don't know if this helps where you are but if you go to a local shop and get the speedo fixed or speedometer recalibrated and bring the reciept to court they almost always lower to an equiptment violation....no points and a cheaper ticket. I actually asked the judge for the plea after giving my reciept and she just totaly dropped all charges.

thats what my speedo was reading when he was behind me so i fegured i was doing like 32 or so, this construction cones just went up the day before. and i didnt realise it was a 25

Was the const. crew working? If no one was working, the speed reduction may not apply at that time of day. and "I was traveling with the flow of traffic." Were their other cars besides you, the guy in front and the cop?

This probably going to be your best course of action. If you even peep in the courtroom about knowing that you were going "around 32 MPH" and it's actually a 25 (regardless of whether you knew it or not) the judge is going to bang his gavel say "GUILTY" and move on to the next case. Present a reciept, fault your speedo, and explain that the malfunction has been corrected (you're showing that you're being "proactive" in resolving the issue) and you have a good shot of the judge dismissing the case alltogether (provided you don't have a list of other violations for him to refer to).

You're the one responsible. Take your medicine and pay attention next time. And of course, get your speedo fixed. But please don't ask me how to beat the law. You already said you knew you were speeding.

i thought i was going like 5 over, i was going so freakin slow before i saw the cop and once i saw him i let up and went as slow as third would alow, i fegured that would be enough i was creapin.

there was just construction put up a few nights ago, and i have lived on this road for 5 years. i didnt see the posted speed until after the cop was behind me. i will have to go back and see where the first actual sign is that says 25. but i wouldnt doubt if that one was the first.

Doesn't matter if it was the first sign. You said you thought you were going 5 over. That doesn't make the cop stupid.

Stop blaming the cops and the system and learn your lesson. They won't send you to the chair for speeding. So pay your fine, fix your speedo, and move on with your life. Maybe you should re-evaluate your driving habits?

i sm not calling cops stupid but pulling someone over for 5 mph over the speed limit is their job. man, that is really weak in my opinion for all the cops posting on this tread i bet you dont go a day withought drving five miles per hour over the speed limit or more at all times. the guy knows he is wrong but ,y god there is a difference between speeding and 32 in a 25.

i am not calling cops stupid, but pulling someone over for going 5 mph over the speed limit is "doing their job?" C'mon that is really weak in my opinion for all the cops posting on this thread i bet you dont go a day withought driving five miles per hour over the speed limit or more at all times. the guy knows he is wrong but, lets be serious i dont care what the situation is you are not putting anyone in danger by driving 30 in a 25. So instead of getting on a fellow stangers back why not concentrate on the sh#t head civics two roads over doing 90 in and out of traffic.( in case u couldn't tell i was recently pulled over for the unthinkable an unthinkable 72 in a 65, and i cant afford this bullsh$t at 18 years old)

i am not calling cops stupid, but pulling someone over for going 7 mph over the speed limit is "doing their job?" C'mon that is really weak in my opinion for all the cops posting on this thread i bet you dont go a day withought driving five miles per hour over the speed limit or more at all times. the guy knows he is wrong but, lets be serious i dont care what the situation is you are not putting anyone in danger by driving 32 in a 25. So instead of getting on a fellow stangers back why not concentrate on the ass-clown civics two roads over doing 90 in and out of traffic.( in case u couldn't tell i was recently pulled over for 72 in a 65, and i cant afford this bullsh$t at 18 years old)

thank you lxboy. you are hit my point on the head. especially if you lived around me, every road within 6 miles of my house is under construction, so the speed limit is 25 EVERYWHERE. no one is gona drive 25 at 11:00 at night when there are 3 cars on the road for a mile. i have fallowed cops going 35 threw the construction. (i live next to a police station). i dont think my driving habits need to change. this is my first ticket and i wasnt going fast, i was putting along a main road in third gear. so 77 im not asking you to help me beat the law so get off my back. i just wanted some advice on how to go about this problem. i know i was speeding but i know i wasnt going 15 over. and when i say speeding im talking 5-7 over witch i feel is expectable and everyone does it when traffic is heavy so you would think it would be even more safe when theres no construction workers and only 2 cars on the road.

Bottom Line

The best way to plea to your crime is not-guilty! Just like OJ!

If your driving a stang chances are you know someone who is a mechanic/shop with a speed calabration machine. It does not matter how far off your speedometer is. Have them right you a receipt, tell the (judge or DA/Assistant DA depending on your court) there must be non-stock gears in the rear end. 99% of the time they will drop this to a equipment malfunction a non-moving violation, but you'll probably have to pay the fine they would have impossed for the speeding ticket + court costs.
