SB engine build

I have recieved some engine parts for a 289-302; torker camshaft and lifters, roller rockers, valve springs, retainers AND a low-rise offenhauser dual quad intake with carbs and linkage. [old school power]

What do you guys think I should do with it??

I am thinking a small block into a 65-66 vert with an AOD. But I need help with block and heads. I don't know small block stuff anymore. Also, how much can I bore and stroke a 302? And what about using 351C heads, ala a BOSS 302??

Well you could do as I just finished and build a 3.4"stroker motor with a 60 over bore and call it a 352.( :D big block?) Mine's a 331 though using a 5.0 roller block.( :D topped with Canfield heads and a six pack intake and carbs :D ) What block do you have on hand to use ? If you go the stroker route, you really need to go aftermarket on the heads or at least pop for a good ported stock set. If you choose the Cleveland head route, that Offy intake won't work. Not much reason to do the "Bogus Boss" with the choices in aftermarket heads today, unless you just want something different.

Fos: Probably driveablitity more than horsepower. With the dual-quads it is an eye catcher

Hearne: I have no block yet. That is why I am asking questions.

Maybe I will just sell the parts and use the money for bolt-ons for my 429.

Why am I not surprised that you are the only two to respond.

If you were to sell the dual four intake, what would you want for it ? As for block choice to start a build up, to me there's only one choice today--- late model 5.0 roller block. They can be had dirt cheap, and affordable roller cam choices are endless. The one I used for my 331 cost me all of $50 for a std bore block. Use a 90's stock crank, add a good set of 7500 rpm capable rods, a good set of pistons and heads and you got a motor that will do an excellant imitation of a Boss 302, without having to worry about trashing a real Boss.

I would have responded 67, but I'm not the most knowledgable. If you are really interested in selling those parts let me know. I could use a set of roller rockers.

I'm with D.Hearne on the block. Can't beat a good roller set up. Unless you really want to use the cam you have now. If you run the AOD with the dual quad set up you're going to have to do some custom fabbing for the TV cable. Personally, I think two carbs under an oval air cleaner would look sweet in a 66.

Fos: I already have a big nasty solid cam. .588/286. CJ aluminum heads would be nice though. With a change over to full roller valvetrain. :D

And I am probably going to a Stealth intake, if it will clear the hood.

Hearne/Mustang70: Since I don't know if I am selling or not....
however I just saw an ad for a offenhauser dual-quad....$150, no carbs.

What the heck are you talking about...TV cable??

Won't clear the hood ? That's what holes and scoops are for :D Is that $150 for the whole setup or just the intake ? After moving a few parts I now have I might be interested. :nice:

The 429 with a performer intake barely clears a Shelby style hood. There is maybe an extra 1.5" and that is with an oval ford racing air cleaner.

Like I said I don't know if I want to sell this stuff or use to build something. I will let you know.

Won't clear a Shelby scoop? That's one reason I went with a Boss 9 scoop on my 427. :D

hey man i am going dual quad on my 289, althuogh i probably won't have the cash for intake and stuff now (just about to buy a welder and a lot of sheet metal) i was wounder what type of offy was it? because i REALLY wanted to go offy, oh and where the carbs angled? thanks.
