everytime i press in my clutch it squels. is my cable too loose, too tight. when i rewired my car i didn't wire my neutral safety switch to the clutch. i can start the car in neutral without the clutch.

are you running a stock clutch cable with a stock plastic quadrant? I know on my stang last yr my plastic quadrant warped and my cable was making a funny noise when i pushed the clutch pedal down, and then it wouldnt go down all the way and my car wouldnt start so I bought a bbk adjustable clutch cable with quadrant and everythings fine now.

If u can start the car in neutral w/o clutch in then yes ur neutral safety switch isn't hooked up, if u ever go to the dragstrip to race ur stang they won't let u race without a neutral safety switch just so you know. Also about the squeeking I installed my bbk adjustable clutch cable about 2-3 weeks ago(my old bbk cable broke after 10 months) and my new one squeeks, I guess it just needs time to get broken in?

more info please. does this squealing happen if you press the clutch with the car off, as well? what is the sound exactly and what is its duration, etc? stuff like that.
good luck.

copperstang, the same thing happened to my 88 when i put the bbk kit in it.i finally fixed it today.it had 2 problems.first the quadrant was walking around on the clutch pedal shaft,i added a few washers to it between the quadrant and lock pin and no more side to side movwment.the second problem was my firewall was flexing where the cable comes through,i added a small piece of reinforcement on the inside of the car, apita but it worked and my clutch is squeek free again.

I'm curious to know what you used to reinforce the firewall...my clutch pedal doesn't have a smooth engage and disengage...I think it has something to do witht he pedal or clutch cable...it creaks when I step on the clutch pedal...so I was thinking it was firewall related...?

i just took a piece a sheetmetal and made a slightly bigger outline than the hole and put it on the inside of the car.then i used a long bolt to go through the firewall adjuster to the plate.the bolt works way better than the screw that came in it from ford.it stills creaks a very little but nothing like it did before and my pedal is even a little softer.it's a pita but i had most of the dash out and steering column out to tighten up a bunch of loose bolts and screws.if i can get the hatch fixed i think all of my rattles will be gone finally.you could possibly use it on the outside for reinforcement,it would probably be less trouble to do it like that.

it just squels when the car is on when i press in the clutch. if the car is off no squeling. also when i release the cltuch it will stop squeling. at first i was thinking it was too tight or too lose

Throw out bearing....

With the car running and pushing the clutch in your putting pressure on the throw out bearing...When you release the clutch the pressures off...When the motors off the bearing's not spinning...

99% of the time it's the bearing...
