I seen a car on E-bay I liked, a 1969 restored sportsroof with a rebuilt 429 thunder jet engine. So im waiting to the last minute to bid so I dont get outbid and I place my bid and it says I have to be verified to bid over 15k, anyway I lost the auction because I could not get verified because it would not take my credit card I had on me. The $%@$@!!! went for 16k, not much less and I could have bid on it. Anyways it might have been for the best, it had drum brakes and they were not power brakes and the rearend appeard to be a 8in. Hopefully I can find another mint restored sportsroof for the 16k range. :bang:

You did good by missing it. It's not a Mach, it's got a drivetrain that does not match the chassis, and everything that can be a rust problem has been replaced. Personally, I avoid cars that have had the torque boxes replaced.

In short, you can do better.

Thanks guys, I feared the 8in rear would be torn up by the 429 and the manual drums would not stop me too well. I do have a 9in and front power disc's I could have used from a 73' though. But I seen a few other cars that interest me. If any of you guys know anyone selling a restored 69' or 70' mach let me know.

Thanks,
Jim

If your looking to buy a original car, especially for that kind of money, make sure you read the description, he clearly states that it was originally a 69 mustang with a 302, making it a non matching 429 out of a 1969 tbird...so the 8 inch is probably the original rear... Can anyone clarify that even being a 429.....I always though the 429 had the beefier valve covers....to me that looks like a 390 but Im not expert.

Ya thanks, Numbers matching isn't important to me, i'd like to have a built big block or a 351c. If the car had front disc and a ford 9in rear i'd really be upset about loosing. I just want something that looks good and has some power to it. I think that engine stock was rated at 340Hp 490ft/lbs, not a horribly fast engine but that torque sure looks good.

That's how my 460 looked when I had it in the car. There isn't a whole lot of working room. I also had drums and an 8 inch. There were a couple times I wasn't sure I was going to stop in time. As for the 8inch holding up, I never got enough traction to try and break it. Anything past quarter throttle from a stop and I just sat there spinning.
