I'm thinking about getting a new Headunit for the mustang, can anyone suggest a good one that I should go with? Also, what can I get to put in place of the stock cd player since it is below the rest of the radio headunit? See the pic I posted below if you don't unsterstand what I mean because I believe the 2001 and up mustang stereos are set up differently. Thanks for any advice.

i have a nice sony CDX something. It comes down real slow and has a black pannel display, want me to take pics? bottom is covered with a full din replacement plastic piece (20 bucks) do not replace it inless you have a lot of time and money on your hands to waste. i did mine and dang do not bother. I got a new head unit so it would look nice then i had a whole in the bottom where the stock stuff was taken out. so i filled that with a 20 dollar piece. then the speakers sound like **** so you rewire them to the head unit (100 bucks to have done but i did mine my self) then you do not like the sound of the speaker so you replace those (300 bucks) then you think you do not have enuff bass from the speakers new subs and amp (500 bucks) custom sub woofer enclosure where when the back seats fold down you see plexi glass and the amp then when you open the truck you see 2 12's facing back. (this is being built inside of my car right now cost is 500 bucks) so think about it before you decide to change one thing. lol just my .02 if you would like i can answer questions you have or take picture of my stuff. let me know. I have done all of this this week. so pics will be updated on car domain soon :)

Do you have Mach 460. I replaced my headunit with a Pioneer deh 6600 I like it. You do not have to rewire the speakers and replace everything you can if you want. I like how my set up sounds. Unless you are a bass freak it doesn't have to be rewired. Just buy the unit, a wire harness for a mach 460, and a Schose factory Amp gain control it is a little blue box you can get at Walmart for $20. I got my din pocket to fill the cd player hole for $15 from Autozone.

I left the main unit in and just put the after market unit where the CD plater was. I can't remember the model# of the wire harness but I got it at Best Buy. I'm sure you can pick one up at any other electronic's store.

I was told that (atleast on my 2001 GT w/ Mach 460) that the speakers were 2 ohm instead of most your aftermarket systems which are 4 ohms (leave it to Ford) I tried putting different speakers in with mine (Infinity) and they would keep cutting out, I asked around and found out that it was becasue of the 2 ohm headpeice. I replaced it with a Clarioin Audio Pro 45x4 channel, 400 watt Rockford amp for mids and highs, 600 Watt Technique performance powering some 10" aluminum cone Volfanhagen speakers in a sealed box, and damn, it fu*&ing pounds. As loud as I want it to go, I got the 2 year warranty, so if I blow them, I get new ones. :nice:

The speakers in the Mach 460 system are 8ohm, as well as the stock head unit. If you are going to swap out the deck, you need to get all new speakers and do a re-wire. Otherwise you will blow the headunit up eventually... Sound quality won't be 100% with stock speakers with an aftermarket head unit either, due to the ohm difference.

I have had my headunit in for over a year and I have even added a sub to the system. I have to turn my shl!t up loud to be heard over my exhaust. I don't have an amp gain control and just used the wire harness that allows me to use the factory amps. Maybe everyone else who has had after market headunits, had their system blow up, I doubt it :nonono: So not to flame you, but I have to call
