I have noticed that almost all 96-98+ Gts with the plastic manifold have had it cracked and such and had to buy a new part that is 300-500 dollars +labor new.

I mean this is a terrible thing for ford to do, clearly they new they did something wrong because I believe in 01 they stopped making the front part of the manifold plastic. Not to mention many of the 96-98 ones crack in other places.

I really think we need to get together and do something about this, get organized and make ford realise that their loyal customers do not enjoy having to spend this kind of money without there being a recall and such. They originally had a program (not recall) in 96 for this, but after 96 they stopped it and yet continued to make the parts the same.

lets get together and do something about this.

here is one other thing I read that suggests this happens to lincoln and mercury cars as well: http://www.complaints.com/june2002/complaintoftheday.june6.13.htm
http://www.tgrigsby.com/views/jerami.htm

There are many more out there, don't let this HUGE company that we are all so loyal to rip us off like that, it's just not fair.

and it's not too late to act, lets get this organized.

Any suggestions on what we should do?

I am planning on doing so, but I shouldn't be forced to buy a new manifold if I don't want to. I'm sure Ford is making some good cash from all the extra manifold they are selling.

lol... and you're complaining? At least 96-98s were included in the recall! Of which you should probably still be eligable (I think it goes until like 2006 or something) My 99 had the same plastic piece of crap and it was not even part of the recall!!! It cracked with about 72k miles on it and was leaking worse and worse until I finally had it replaced with an 01+ intake. Thankfully the Service Manager here is a family friend... so I got it done for a $100 deductable.

Did you spray it with water or something?
I have over 100k on my 2000GT and havent had this problem.
My brother has a 98GT that cracked but it was because he was cleaning a hot engine with cold water.

Fix it with some epoxy! You'd be surprised how well that stuff really works!

Heck, Don Anderson took a stock intake and shortened the runners and epoxied it back together and it worked fine!

The TSB is over. It was only for 6 years after the manufacture date. I was lucky enough to get mine replaced in that time period. Ford told me the replacement was engineered better. But it was STILL plastic. I later did the PI head swap and got the aluminum crossover. I'm not worried about it anymore!

I share the thread starters aggrevation. Mine just blew last night on the way home from a friend's house. It was a real gusher, too! I wonder how many cracked blocks this resulted in.

I don't think there's any real recourse for us unfortunate ones, but screw you guys who haven't had the prob and are making light of our plight. Intakes don't grow on trees, and when you have to get to work, it's not a laughable situation.

Find a dude in your area who's installed a Kenne Bell...they will no doubt have their stock intake sitting in the basement.

That's where mine is.

Good luck

I have a 2000 that did the same thing at 38K and it wasn't warrantied. This was after my 96 did the exact same thing. Anyway, I now have a brand new 2001, not in the box, intake sitting next to my desk. Make me an offer and it's yours.
