I know they sell an a/c elimator kit that moves the p/s pump up to where the a/c was and lets you keep your stock belt.

I also see on the underhood diagram it shows the belt simply bypassing the a/c compressor (dotted line labeled "less a/c").

I can't find anywhere that stocks a belt for a non a/c mustang (mine is an 89). A local Ford dealer said he could get one but I'd need a new tensioner arm and pulley because they're different. He said the arm is longer so there's a more tension to make up for the lesser angle... is this right?

Does anyone just run a shorter belt - and if so, what length do I need?

i dont recall what length the belt is but yes, you can run a shorter belt. All you need it the lenght and go to autozone or a local parts store to get it! Geat MOD, the A/C compressor weighs like 30+ pounds.

do it! I have the A/C elimnator kit & smog delete kit. It rev's liike a ferrari!
BUT
I have an underdrive crank pulley and alternator pulley. Also I have an electric waterpump & fan. The water pump has a free spinning pulley (should be stock size). My setup is not right with the stock belt. There is no tension, anyone know how much shorter I should go? it is out of the range scale & almost bottemed out. I would go to stock pulleys but if a shorter belt is available I'd preffer it.

If you just take out the ac and run a belt it runs REAL close to the other part of it and might cause problems(diffrent with every car). I have the ac elim kit and just took the smog pump out and ran a shorter belt. To get the belt take some string and run it threw the pulleys to measure it and then go to the auto parts store and tell them the size and bingo got a belt.

P.S. I have Underdrive pulleys and it works fine
