columbus, oh
Im saving up for an engine swap, the lease is up in a year and I am gonna buy the gt, but the motor is gonna have approx 150000 miles on it, if not more. When i buy it, its going in the garage and becoming my project car (van will be paid off and wife wants a jetta). My idea up till know was a stroked 2v longblock from dss. As i still have plenty of time to change my mind, im still looking for other alternatives. I saw an add in mm&ff where jegs had complete 4v swaps, computer, engine, wireing, tranny, the works. I have started to wonder what would be the better thing to do? They both cost the same, about 7k. DO the 2000 cobras come with forged internals? also, will my exhaust components bolt up to the 4v headers? any ideas which would be the best bet? I also want to go with a supercharger in the future, if that makes any difference....What do you guys think??

That sounds like the FRPP 01 Cobra crate engine Jegs is selling, and it has cast pistons and powder metal rods. That might be a good bet as it is complete with and you have 320 hp to start with, but it might not be the best for a s/c. Your o/r x and c/b will fit the 4v manifolds. n/a, I would go for the cobra swap, probably less $ and hassle in the long run.

I give major props to the guy that can take a 2V as far as it can go in a car that came originally equipped with the 2V.

My 2 cents (aka 3 cent Cdn)

us canadian boys must think alike :D... while that is a damn good price on the 4v and tranny... thats kinda taking the easy way out IMO.. also the cobra has an 8 bolt crank, and the same rods and pistons as the GT.. so while it technically is a better starting point than the GT motor you will have to change the bottom end out anyways.. so really youre spending 6k for 4v heads :notnice:

my vote would be talk to www.modularfordpowerhouse.com Tim and the guys have gotten absolutely nothing but praise from anyone i know of that has dealt with them, a real first class operation :nice: theyve gotten a couple of our little 2v's over 700 rwhp.. and more than a few at the 500 rwhp mark..

they definately are the guys to talk to, they tune the cars they work on too, not just sell you the parts and leave you high and dry like alot of companies (jegs)

edit: your exaust wont work with a 4v an exaust shop can make it fit (midpipe) but you will need new headers forsure (diffrent heads)

99-03 cobra/gt use the same mid pipe and he does not have headers listed in his mods, so his exhaust will fit. The crate eng. comes with manifolds, but if you have gone that far why not some headers and a new mid pipe.

well, let me start by saying that I wouldnt be doing just a 2v to a 4v swap, i really wanted to stick with the 2v motor... to keep it a real deal gt. Well, when jegs trew the tranny, wiring harness, full exhaust (headers & midpipe (gone anyway, replaced with my o/r x made to fit, of course)), computer, and everything else needed to basically make it a brand new car. All of that for 6200$? With the engine i just get a longblock. I still have all the other things that will have 150000+ miles... just waiting to go south. Also, my choice of superchargers has something to do with going with the 4v. As i have always had my heart set on a twin screw blower (it doesnt look better than having that kenn belle sitting right on top when you open the hood) you can get centrifugal superchargers for much less. With a centrifugal sc the more power the higher rpms, and from what i understand, the 4v's love to revv. I would think it would be a great engine for the sc application. Im not an expert, and if i have got anything wrong, please fill me in, but from what i undersdtand this is a good combo.

oh, id definitly get a new set of headers...get them on before the engine goes in... that is a true pita otherwise. But i love my combo right now and i would hate to have to spend the extra money for another midpipe, when this one is only maybe a year old, and in great shape

Dude, I would totally go with the 4V Cobra setup from Jegs. That is an insane price! And like you said, it's all complete. You won't have to worry about putting anything old back in the car. The whole drivetrain is new. And the new Cobra's have SC on them, so why not SC that 4v? I think you'd be better off with that combo. IMO of course :)

am I the only one baffled as to why Jegs would say "This complete ''Signature Series'' engine and transmission package is lifted directly from the 2000 Mustang Cobra." it's missing .8 liters there... and for only 1 off 300 engines that is dirt cheap :p

Like you said with all the wear on your tranny etc, the 4v swap is certainly well priced. Of course that motor isnt built to handle boost though. Try vtengines.com and see if theres anything they have that would be well priced but forged. If this is going to become your project car, itll have a blower soon enough.

When did Ford start building "2000 Cobras"? And if they are Ford Racing Performance Parts, I would think Ford would have them cheaper than Jegs.
Even the FRPP catalog has them listed as 00 Cobra engines, go figure. FRPP has them listed for $5995, some dealers my be able to sell them cheaper, I'd check around.
